Japanese Super Taikyu Series 2015
I thought that instead of periodically spamming things to the 'Lower Leagues' thread about this series - the Japanese Super Taikyu I've lately been starting to follow from distance - I could just have a thread of it's own for the season. It's a small series not particularly geared for audiences (which you can probably tell here ) and it slots waaaay behind the headliner domestic series a la Super GT and Super Formula, as well as some other smaller series, but it's still quite interesting if you like long distance + multi class racing.
Today Super Taikyu has six classes of machinery, the fastest being ST-X (essentially GT3) followed by ST-1 all the way to ST-5. The lower you go the less it's sports cars and more stock-room touring cars. Upper classes tend to have only few entries while back of the grid booms. As for speed, ST-1 has around GT4 level of performance or lower, so... This year's entries should be announced some time in February. 2015 calendar RD0) Mar 1 / Twin Ring Motegi TESTING RD1) Mar 28-29 / Twin Ring Motegi 5 Hours RD2) May 23-24 / Sugo 3 Hours RD3) Jul 4-5 / Fuji 8 Hours RD4) Aug 1-2 / Autopolis 3 Hours RD5) Sep 5-6 / Okayama 3 Hours RD6) Oct 24-25 / Suzuka *TBA* The only clash with SGT&SF is between Sugo and Super Formula at Okayama IIRC. Fuji round used to be 7 hours but has been extended Series PR is not great to put it mildly and is only in japanese. The only sensible video coverage I know of consists of around 15 minute recap reel the series uploads to youtube weeks later. So don't expect anything fancy. https://www.youtube.com/user/SupertaikyuOfficial Even if no-one posts here I'll try something (when I make sense of their PR) during the season Last edited by Deleted; 28 Jan 2015 at 02:04. |

Yeah they won the class last year. Not that there was much full season competition, only one BMW
It's one of the cars worth following. Said this elsewhere but it looks sort of like a baby between Lotus Evora and Saleen??? if that makes sense You would think there'd be more of those since there's that spec series for them at Fuji. |

Not that bad looking!
That's what I like from national racing series. Funny cars you won't see anywhere else. Like the Divitec SF11 in Supercar Challenge. |

In the Toyota outlines press release, there was small bit for this series as well - nothing major but still continued involvement.
Since 2012, GAZOO Racing has sponsored Tom's Spirit, a team competing with the "86", and will compete again this year with the GAZOO Racing Spirit 86. Furthermore, Toyota will dispatch engineers and mechanics to learn vehicle development skills and be trained as automotive seasoning personnel. GAZOO Racing driversTakuto Iguchi, Naoya Gamou, and Takamitsu Matsui will compete in all six races, with Masahiko Kageyama as director. The class in question is ST-4. |

Seems like ST this year is going to actual TV rather than only some youtube recap. 30 minute highlight shows on smaller domestic terrestial+cable channels. Also to somewhere on web after the initial broadcast.

For a moment I was hoping it made a J-Sports channel so it could potentially be picked up by the regular free-stream services (a la SGT), but some domestic TV is much better than Youtube only.

More importantly since it's an actual TV broadcast one could hope that they'd actually show some, you know racing and things that happened during the event, rather than just the class winner interviews + random profile shots of their cars circulating the track.

The total lack of ST-1 entries, and more importantly IPS Kuruma is a bit depressing.
They've had a wet test day at Motegi with little over third of the full season participants few days ago, ahead of the season opener. As usual ST hasn't bothered to give us any results on PDF, just some article on japanese. So just the fastest cars outlined here, with no times ST-X/GT3 (1st overall) #32 Porsche 911 GT3 R ST-2 (7th overall) #6 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX ST-3 (8th overall) #15 Nissan Fairlady Z34 ST-4 (15th overall) #58 Honda Integra Type-R ST-5 (28th overall) #117 Mazda Demio I remember how you always got that crappy slow ass Demio for winning Sunday Cup in the original Gran Turismo lol. Always sold it immediately for 12 grand I think I love the look of this class chart btw |

Inter Proto Series Kuruma has its own championship, mostly at Fuji.

But it's a sprint spec series, and not mostly but only run at Fuji, seeing it in endurance races elsewhere was cool. It was the most exotic looking of the bunch too in this series |

45 cars for 5 hour season opener this weekend
http://www.supertaikyu.com/races/rou..._entrylist.pdf Five less than on full season list but still 45. Super GT imposes maximum capacity of 42 for Motegi but ST allows more than that. One further lacking thing is the spec-Yokohama tires |

The series has uploaded the race "review"/recap of Round 1 on youtube, around 3 months after the meeting I assume it's the same as broadcasted on Japanese TV, which could also explain the delay. It's half an hour so 15-20 minutes longer than previously so not much, but I guess something

RD2 SUGO half hour recap
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p1NI-rkocNY The sponsor-intro at the start is still amazing oh the japanese and weird positive vibes. RD4 Autopolis entry list http://www.supertaikyu.com/races/rou..._entrylist.pdf 44 cars, 2 more than last year. Quite steady numbers overall this season. No ST-1 again despite there being one entry at Fuji. ST-2 has almost been Mitsubishi Lancer spec class. In ST-3 SARD has had pretty crappy times after Motegi, entered for SUGO but didn't qualify, and early retirement in Fuji Last edited by Deleted; 28 Jul 2015 at 21:57. |

Round four of the Super Taikyu series was held at Autopolis this weekend. Tomonobu Fujii and ‘Gamisan’ qualified the GTNET ADVAN C-WEST Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 on pole position for the three-hour race, but the won by the Endless Advan BMW Z4 GT3 of Yuke Taniguchi, Kyosuke Mineo and Yuya Motojima.

For anyone that's interested, here's a short video of Daijiro Yoshihara (Formula D, D1GP) taking part in the Fuji 8 Hours (Round 3) in the #96 Team Spoon Asia S2000. The full season car (#95) won the race after spending most of it behind the #40 Tracy Sports S2000.

http://www.supertaikyu.com/ranking/d...anding_Rd6.pdf 59 scorers in 6 classes in total. I don't think they've announced 2016 calendar (or anything else) yet. The most crucial thing their PR has been concentrated for has been 'ST Girl / Race Queen' choosing. I guess while SARD didn't impress in the actual championship - outside the podium in 4th place in ST-3 - they did win this beauty contest or whatever this is supposed to be. http://www.supertaikyu.com/stgirl/results.html (I would've traded all of the top5 for non-top5s ) |
