Snetterton - Night Fever?
Can anyone shed any light (bad pun) on whether snetterton 2003 will be a Night event?

It's an 'evening' meeting rather than a night race in the usual BTCC sense. Last BTCC should finish around 8pm then there's a 30-min Hertitage GT race.

Not fussed about the cars racing at night as you can't really see that much - as long as the atmosphere is that of the earlier night races I'll be happy!

Surely they've got to just be going for overall atmosphere as 8:00 isn't going to be remotely dark. Still, it should be good.
TL, haven't they billed a funfair at each of the night races, usually turned out to be a piddling little wheel |

It isn't meant to a night race though!
It's meant to be an evening race, and at 8pm - that is evening time. I think it will be a great atmosphere, and the campsite afterwards will just be electric! |

If the weather is foul, and we have seen it before at snett, it will be quite dark!!!
If the weather holds, then the evening twilight atmosphere will good I agree.. shame I cant be there |

Didn't they scrap night racing in the first place because it was too expensive? If it's twilight, you can usually see less than if it's dark so I bet there will be a bit of biffing still going on!

The biggest problem for drivers is the dark areas of the track at 8PM sort of time mixed with the low sun of that time of evening dazling them....

You're right there, Speedy King. Speaking as someone who's raced at Snetterton in the dusk/night, the worst bit is coming round Coram when the sun is setting - it's right in your eyes, and makes the track shiny. Any of you who have driven on the road in bright sunlight after rain will know how difficult it is looking at a shiny road surface!
Driving in the dusk is probably more difficult than in the dark. |

Whatever the weather is like it is sure to be a great treat to see the cars flying down the revett straight as the sun sets. And there is a Historic GT race after it.

in the night races it wasn't so much dealing with the dark, but dealing with the light. the artificial lights were hard to adjust a drivers vision from dark to light.
it was also good to see teams using illumonus strips and graphics which would make the cars stand out. |

If you can blag your way off work and get to Snett on the Friday afteroon, there is qualifying and then the postponed Silverstone FF Zetec race which starts at 5.55pm I think. Most of the FF guys ( not drivers I must add ) and half of the paddock will then no doubt decend on the Stag pub - two miles up the road towards Attleborough by the Breckland Lodge motel. No doubt a bit bleary eyed on the Saturday then!

They were supposed to help the drivers eyes cope with the quick change of going from dark areas of the track to very very bright areas of the track.

You sure? I thought they were for the spectators to identify cars. Lights in the window or illuminated sunstrips were the solution. Or in the case of Barwell - fluorescent strip lights under the car.
