my car now . . . .120BHP 765Kg = 158 BHP per ton
when I've spent an arm and a leg on an engine and removed underseal, beergut etc . . . .150 BHP & 730 Kg = 205 BHP per ton (and the oputside possibility of a class win ! |

supplementary if I may - are these figures usually calculated using 'at-the-wheels' bhp or 'calculated flywheel' bhp ?

Usually at flywheel but exludes driver, which in my case seiously affects the final figure.
Engine 132 bhp,car 385 kgs,then me another 100 kgs! Answer,massive diet or massive engine,guess which will win? Lister |

Red dog
It gets even better.
I've just found some corner weights after ride height adjustment following spring rate change. Brian Wingfield Racing 13/08/02 - 782 lbs or 355 kgs. If it goes on likwe this I will be airborne! Lister |

765Kg, sounds Nova/Corsa-ish.
My ol' Nova was 780 in Super Road Saloon spec, but is now about 760 in ModProd spec, with more to lose. Steve Quenby's used to tip the scales at just over 710 if memory serves me right. Harry weighs 780Kg rolling without the engine, which weighs about 380lb (approx 170Kg),the gearbox, which weighs about 20Kg, the air jacks, which weigh about 20Kg, exhaust headers and system, fuel, oil, water, and other odds & sods, and it's got to be under 1100Kg at the track. BHP - about 740 at the flywheel. Fun fun fun fun fun. And one final shot - BHP at the wheels versus flywheel - for front wheel drive cars with synchro (helical cut gears) gearboxes, lose 21% of your flywheel power through the box and diff. Dog boxes, straight cut, typically 10% loss. For those new to the subject.... Rob. |

the only vauxhaul I'm likely to race against is a VX4/90, I think they weigh about a ton and a half, plus paint and filler, less corrosion . . .so about a ton and a half !
dunno about rear wheel drive losses though |
