Historic racing in Europe........
A friend of mine wants to look into racing in Europe more next year (he did the Spa 6 hours this year). He is in the enviable position of owning two early sixties british sports cars, both with FIA papers. I can remember seeing in previous threads that racing in Europe is cheaper and well organised, how can I find out about series and race meetings in the eurozone - or does anybody out there already compete regularly through the chunnel....any suggestions would be gratefully received...

What cars are they? A lot of racing, especially FIA historic depends on the car.

I think it depends what type of racing he wants to do. Cloth Cap and Gentlemen Drivers, both UK based series have several European races (Pau, Dijon, Spa, Chimay, Estoril etc). They are 1 hour in the case of Cloth Cap and 2 1/2 hours in case of GD. Over and above this VdeV offer long distance racing. However depending on what car he has and where in the grid he wants to be (VdeV have B16 and T70's racing) he might be better off with CC and GD. They are both very well run series, I race with both of them.
What is he racing? |

what he said !
and living on the tropical south coast we're closer (arguably) to the likes of Spa, Dijon, Croix etc than we are to the North of England etc |

I'm hoping we get invited into the GTA's next year then a trip to Pau, Chimay and of course Spa will be on the programme.

Ok, 1st car is a 1962 Healey and the second car a 1960 Lotus Elite, the longer races are preferred, e.g 1 hour +, and not too worried about where on the grid at the moment, but hopefully looking for a class tussle. Would be looking to compete both cars in the same race, preferably each with two drivers.

The Elite should be able to get Gentlemen Driver entries (2 1/2 hour races) not sure about the Healey, Cloth Cap would definately take both as would the 6 Hour (although asking a Climax to do 6 Hours might be asking too much!)
VdeV would take both as well they all have good websites with all the details sounds like Tour Britannia might fit the bill as well! |
