YES!!!...
Well, in order to start a project on changing the Silverstone layout, its best to view other Silverstone layouts... OK, have a look at this, and see how slowly and gradually the circuit has changed over its many years... I see nothing wrong with the 2003 Proposal for Silverstone. It takes very little effort to build the track (as most of the track is there anyway), and the extra land would help with parking etc for the circuit... I honestly really like it... Now, lets take into consideration other people's circuits from Fantasy Tracks - Silverstone... Some circuits are unthinkable, and just plain crazy to try and implement into the real world. However, some are quite unique, and yet are very possible to build... Another way of looking at this track, is in sections... The true 'run ways' haven't been used in god knows how many years for the GP circuit. But anyways... Lets look at the Maggots-Becketts-Chapel section. A fast section, not good for overtaking. However, very unique in the world of Formula One, even more so in the world of racing circuits. Should it stay or should it go???... Hanger Straight. A long straight. Rare in F1 these days if not found on pit straight. Should it stay or should it be broken up a bit???... Stowe. Another long corner. Very tricky to drive, and fantastic to watch. A true characteristic of Silverstone. Should it stay or should it go???... Club and Abbey. Two chicanes of Silverstone. Should they stay or should they go???... 'The Complex'. One thing which I would change straight away at Silverstone. Offers a good mix of corners and hairpins. Very tricky for the drivers. The entry (Bridge), an awesome corner, where if oversteer occurs (points at Jarno Trulli in 2004), then yeah... So, lets get cracking ... Last edited by f1freak; 22 Dec 2004 at 05:26. |

Well, the Abbey chicane is dreadful, but removing that would force us to tighten Bridge. If Bridge is tightened, i'd like a longer run into Priory, in order to make it more of an overtaking possibility. Brooklands and Luffield can stay as they are for my sake.
Anyone got an areal photo? That'd do good . |

Personaly I love the current Silverstone layout, and when I saw the 2003 Proposal I nearly died with shock, the only thing I would change is the Abbey chicane, take it back to the 1991 layout.

well yes f1freak hit the nail ... silverstone is a classic and almost every corner is unique, i actually love the abbey chicane as its not one that you have to crawl round in first gear, you can carry speed through it and it a hotspot for exciting action/overtacking, (barrichello) ... for me the only area you can chane is between priory and luffield ... and thats is not a lot of space i beileve lustigson did a good one of your site didnt he?

And here's my bid.
Thanks to ImageShack for Free Image Hosting #1 issue was to get back the Abbey kink. In order to do this, Bridge had to be slowed down somewhat. Doing this, you might aswell lengthen the run to Priory, 'cos otherwise it would be dreadful. This also makes Brooklands more exiting. |

I havent removed Abbey? I put back the kink .
Ruining Bridge was necessary. It would be way too dangerous otherwise. |

Bridge is faster, its not as tight. Plus I think you've forgotten the fact you've made Abbey a dangerous corner now Last edited by pirenzo; 22 Dec 2004 at 16:53. |

I agree by the way with CG that the current Abbey Chicane isn't too bad. Its 3rd gear in an F1 car, about 75mph I think, so as chicanes go its fast.
For me the best thing about it is it puts the cars on the left hand side of the road right at the exit b the spectator area, which makes it very exciting to stand and watch. |

Personaly tr, don't mean to be harsh but I think you've ruined the rythum. If changes are..to..be..made..then..I..think..it..should..be..in..the..first..section.
Sorry,space..bar..playing up. Last edited by luke; 22 Dec 2004 at 16:29. |

I still think the run to Priory should be lengthened.
So, take my edit, make Abbey and Bridge normal again, and keep my new priory . |

Mike that was what my thread was intended for, but no one seemed to follow it up, but if you want too, that would be cool.

well it will be hard as it is a great track (i think) it doesnt need changing as much as it just needs some like of paint and smoothing the edges, it already has alot of overtaking and is a real challenge for the drivers which is difficult in tracks nower days.

okay ive re dun my edit of the track ......... if its any good or not i dunno, but as i said in my veiw this is all it needs track changing the rest would be new grandstands and pit area and other things around the track ... make it more modern.
waddya think ? Edit: the only other thing i could see to do would be to make priory a real hair pin and then move luffield in a bit thus making woodcote more like its self .... infact ill post another picture in a bit of it so its easier Last edited by Mike_Wooshy; 22 Dec 2004 at 19:20. |

I'd lengthen the run to Priory even more. That bit you've got isn't gonna help much.
Lenthening the run to Priory will mean a slight tightening of the exit of Bridge. I hope thats not too much of a sacriledge . |

i dont think it needs any more lengthing as they are leaving bridge quiet fast anyway, althou i do see what you saying lenghting it would make it better, anyway here is an edit i have done but it does really ruin the complex.
