i think you guys are getting a bit carried away with the speed of the ST cars...at Taupo in testing J mac and jono and willy were about 2.5 secs away from the porsche GT3 pace of 2 x seasons ago(and end of back straight chicane is slightly quicker now)......and last week the 997 fastway enduro porsche with lester driving was 1.5 secs quicker than that ST pace on very old tyres....i doubt they are as close to a V8SC as some of you think....

My point though is that it doesn't seem to matter what anyone says about the startup cost of whatever series (new ones especially), it's only ever an estimate and usually ends up about 50% more expensive. We are still not in the realms of V8SC territory for budgets by a long way.

BTW, have you ever seen a V8SC at Taupo? That track is likely to suit a Porsche better in any case. |

Going back to the speed of the cars...
Has anyone got lap times of the STs there verses the new NZV8 with the old drivetrain? That was 4s a lap quicker than the old NZV8s. Manfield this year the STs were 4s a lap faster than the old NZV8s. Now, Manfield was not ideal conditions, not a lot of it was dry (some was though) so there's prob still a second or two in there, and Ruapuna is different to Manfield. But the evidence points to the STs not being as fast as a lot claim (Not that over all speeds matters in spec classes) Would be pretty cool to see some comparable lap times between them all |

I'm only going off what figures I have seen, and they started it
And going by the lap times I have seen, It could be a lot closer than the ST fans would like. But again I will state it matters 0 which is faster. I just don't like seeing silly claims. Anyway, I was stating definites, I was asking if anyone had any |

Best V8CC Matt Lockwood with a 1:10.489 So almost exactly 6 seconds a lap quicker at HD. I'd expect the difference to be more pronounced at fast circuits like Pukekohe though, because the TL cars reached their top end about half way along and then sat there, but the extra horses in the ST's should give them a fair bit more at the top, plus probably better aero on the new shape as well (although that is an assumption only). |

Still, not a definite. |

Well Promax reckoned a TL-X on Dunlops was 3 seconds quicker than a TL around Ruapuna, so I guess you could hazard a guess that would make them about 3 sec slower than an ST?

isn't the TLX car around 50 - 75 hp less than the ST? Also what are the torque figures like on the assigned engines for the TLX car?
And while we are there, what is the weight, all up (including driver) for the TLX? I really dont think the TLX car with the TT box will be 'competitive' compared to an ST, but still better than the current cars as used in V8CC. I'd say GB is about right, maybe 3 or 4 secornds slower around Ruapuna |

Equally don't forget that it would quite easy to make the ST faster than it currently is.
But that isn't the point and it wouldn't necessarily make the racing any better When you look at the 'bang for buck' ST stacks up pretty well esp when you compare the budget compared to the obscene amount they spend in 'The Lucky Country' Once all 24 cars are on the grid its going to be a pretty good show. And by pretty good, I mean ever better. |

New car with the old running gear was 4s a lap quicker than the old ones at ruapuna.
So not full spec and its around half way beteen st and old v8. So the gap won't be 3s. What the STs really need to do is cut the wings. On a clean dry track they are boring to watch. Need less grip |
