Audi Daytona Prototype?

There is a suggestion on Autosport.com today that Audi might consider a DP once the ALMS and Grand-Am merge, so that they are able to compete at the top level of US sportscar racing.
They do have a history of US tube frame type racers from Trans-Am, don't they?
Thoughts?
