great racing... shame about the commentary team. i'm sure i've seen Eddie Bell race a couple years back in a Green Commodore.. even though Shaun "Steven Richards isn't a kiwi even though he was born in NZ" Summerfield seem to think this was only his 2nd season in NZV8's
Big congrats to Eddie Bell and his team! awesome job this weekend! |

Yeah Shaun obviously had no idea who Eddie was, "This kid has shown some pace...", Shaun was a bit rusty but not sure he's done any major commentary before, he's obviously passionate about motorsport so he should improve given the time to do so.
A great weekends racing, cant wait for the show to come down here to Ruapuna |

Havn't seen the footage yet but personally I'm willing to cut Shaun a little slack, think he will catch up fairly quickly.
Agree promax - not the Rock crew |

Hi,
Under their skins, our NZV8 cars, are actually based on very old models, the oldest being the Holden Commodore, which dates back to the VT shell, and the Falcon the original AU shell. We will not and can not afford to adopt the Australian Chassis approach, so until we sign off on the control chassis [for 2011/12] we have only be able to make the Commodore resemble the front of a VE [next year a VE rear] plus a FG look kit, for the Falcon next season. The new control chassis will be designed to take all manner of bodies, including a Toyota Camry. Mark Petch. VEEGA. |

Really enjoyed the weekend... Commentary at the track didnt flow to well either i thought, plus they need some post-60s music between the races too... otherwise you lack that event atmosphere!
Racing is always great at Pukekohe! I just hope Hampton Downs doesn't completely kill it off! The fields, with maybe the exception of the production cars were healthy and will only improve post-recession! VE is apparently due for next years series... |

with respect, I think you should read my post above. There will not be a true VE, or a true FG until the new control chassis, and that is at least 2 seasons away at this stage. Mark Petch. CEO and Chairman. VEEGA |

Im sorry about that Mark,
I started writing before your post was online! Had a quick chat with Paul Manuel recently, who mentioned the VE for next season, but didn't realise it was still a VT-based chassis... I think the control chassis is a great idea for the longevity of the series, plus im sure the likes of Albany Toyota would like to see a Camry or Aurion bodied car |

NAC, let me assure you, our new control chassis will be nothing remotely like a NASCAR chassis. Whilst we have yet to sign off on the prototype, the concept we are working on, is a radical departure from the current Australian Supercar chassis, however up close it will still look like a four door family saloon to the public. IE have opening doors, bonnet, boot, a floor-pan, transmission tunnel, inner guards etc. However the front suspension will be pure race car, with out compromise, but the car will still use a live rear axle. It will also weigh a lot less than the the 1450 kg's of both the current NZV8 and Australian Supercar. We estimate the new car will be approximately 3 seconds a lap quicker around, say Pukekohe. I am not going to give the game away but it will be quite something when we do go public with it, probably at the NZ Speed show, next September. Mark Petch. VEEGA. Well done mark, looks like your guys are much further down the road with your "Car of Tomorrow" compared to OZ. Nice to see more than 2 body styles two. Looking forward to seeing the NZV8's at Hampton Downs.

Note Hampton event is scheduled to be an endro - our very own mini Bathurst. Lots to think about, who to partner with, $ in vs good driver, GT3 or other NZ support classes drivers or look to the Aussie cousins (Supercar / Fujitsu series etc) Just sad it's not a points paying round. |

I think I have addressed this subject before, how ever if its another forum, let me say here on Ten Tenths, that the Hampton downs enduro date is provisional only, at least as far as NZV8's are concerned. To be perfectly frank, we have not even begun to discuss an NZV8 Enduro, with our JV partners TMC. However TMC are well aware of VEEGA's official position on such an Enduro, IE. its either an exclusive NZV8 500k race, or nothing. That is not to say TMC will not go ahead and hold an "all-comers" Enduro, that is their right, but we VEEGA will not sanction such an event for our sharholder's/Teams. |

it might interest you to know that AV8, the 3 car Holden team that implemented the new VE look have, have reverted to the VZ look for the rest of the season. AV8 believe that the 3% larger frontal area is hurting their straight line speed, and thus negating the true performance enhancements of the various engine freedoms we gave the Holden's this season. As Pukekohe is probably the only track in the country were most cars are on the rev limiter [in top gear] on the main straight away, Its hard to see that this sudden about face, will pay dividends. However, it is the Teams sole right to decide if any such options our regulations provide, suit them, on an individual basis. Mark Petch. |

Similar to V8 Supercars where a VZ should theoretically be quicker than a VE.

Looks like Adam Brook is back in the series for Ruapuna (Christchurch) next week. Would the larger frontal area give lower top end speed but better speed through corners?
