The NGTC rules probably sparked the thought process! But developing a new car is very expensive at this level whatever the rules so, initially, buying a car was the first route and when the Golf became available it was our first choice. Not many people would see it as a natural choice but we are taking into account the nature of our business which is VAG vehicle tuning and the VW Golf is our core business. Thanks for the support. Cheers Shaun. |

SEAT Sport say that they will support anyone running a Leon FSI or TDI in local and World championships:
Quote:
Anyone brave enough to want to run a TDI in the BTCC? Can anyone from the UK afford it? Theres got to be 4+ diesel and a fair few petrol Leons available now. What happened to Northern South's TDIs? Were they petrol and converted to diesel? Edit - side note, I think we need a Super Touring Register-style site for S2000 and BTC spec cars |

Tom Boardman's WTCC car from 2009 was Darren Turner's 2008 BTCC chassis.

Do you plan to throw in an NGTC engine from at least mid season to get a head start for 2011 as well? |

Colin Turkington's not yet committed to WSR though [see link here]... I imagine they're operating off a much smaller budget right now, the Alvara livery has a lot of white space on it.

''Bennetts also backed up comments by Turkington to TouringCarTimes, that "As it stands, a golden opportunity exists for a company to take up title sponsorship of the most successful non-works BMW team in Europe."' http://www.touringcartimes.com/news.php?id=4322 So it looks like it could end up changing. Personally, I hope it does, there's enough white BMWs over the past few years in motorsport to last a lifetime. For the record, Alvara is part of Ceravision, meaning Andy Neate's links etc. |

So WSR's big announcement was that they have no major sponsor and no drivers! It's all very well Dick Bennetts taking up the possibility of running 3 cars or doing ETCC/WTCC (story on TCT) but so far they seem to have squat.

That is one bold statement considering the competition from both STCC, DTC and WTCC indie BMW teams... and WSR hasn't even participated in eg the ETCC AFAIK, so how can they judge their strenght relative other European teams?

So 1 BTCC title & 0 ETCC titles make them the best European indie BMW TC team?
That pales in comparison to eg WCRs 5 STCC titles & 1 ETCC title to just name 1 other team in contention. Last edited by stedevil; 15 Jan 2010 at 08:44. |

Well, thats quite easy to determine, here is the statistics for the top three STCC teams:
Kristoffersson Motorsport: 7 titles 5 - STCC drivers titles 2 - STCC team titles WestCoast Racing - 7 titles 4 - STCC drivers titles 2 - STCC team titles 1 - ETCC drivers title Flash Engineering - 6 titles 3 - STCC drivers titles 3 - STCC team titles |

I think its fair to say WSR have a huge amount of success in the BTCC running Ford, Honda, MG and now BMW but like has been said does that make you the most successful non works BMW team ? WCR have a better track record and more titles. Some time I think BTCC teams bask in the BTCC's former glory too much.
WSR did launch th career of one Ayrton Senna though so they might have a right to boast, just not about their BMW achivements Last edited by V8thunderfan; 15 Jan 2010 at 09:55. |
