Secondly, the danger in such fires comes from the heat and carbon monoxide. Breath the heated air and fire gases and it is over in no time. Also in such circumstances , similar to room fires, the carbon monoxide will knock the victim unsconscious in no time so particle filters don't make any sense as they can't resist the carbone monoxide and the heat of the gases through the fire. So unless the drivers wear and use breath protection kits, they arent safe on that side. On a side note, you can read very similar from Niki Lauda, if you dig deep enough. However, above is just my (firefighting) experience |

Is there anywhere I can find a rundown of the different classes and basic information about them. I'm pretty sure sp7,8(restricted GT2?), and 9 (GT3?) are the fastest and sp10 is for FIA GT4s. But there are so many it's hard to keep up. For example it seems the Hybrid Porsche, Schnitzer BMWs and VW Scirocco's all have classes to themselves. Can someone shed some light?

The Hybrid Porsche and the factory Bimmers are in E1 XP, which is basically a ru-what-you-brung class for whichever cars the organizers deem desirable, there are further subdivisions in this class, but I don't know if those have any special consequences. The Scirrocos are in AT, which is for (A)lternative Fuel cars with (T)urbocharged engines.
As for the other classes, you might wanna take a look at one of the entry lists on the VLN-homepage as the cars there are sorted according to classes and there usually is a short description of the class I.e. SP3 means 24hour Specials between 1750cc and 2000cc, SP3T would be similar but already starting at 1600cc and with a tubo-charger. So the the letters indicate the division the cars is in (SP= 24h Specials, V= Production cars, H = Gruppe H, a German historic class that allows for a lot of technical freedom, but that is only allowed for VLN, but not for the 24hours), whereas the numbers indicate the engine displacement. |

Just finished reading an interview with Jorg Bergmeister on the hybrid car. The car "suffers" from the excessive weight of the the hybrid system (150kg) and is also been given a 25kg weight penalty by the organizers. They are concentrating on the fuel saving aspect of the system, as opposed to the "more power" aspect. They feel that a top 10 finish would be excellent. (A win or a podium is quite out of the question) |

There's quite a few interesting entries on the list. Got a Viper and a Vette again.
Jurgen has popped back in with his Porsche, this time without Uwe again. The Mamerow Porsche has Henzler in there so they could be a darkhorse. The Need for Speed Schubert Z4s could have a nice ride. And it's great to see RLM will be covering the Practice and Qualifying sessions for the 1st time. Will also be nice to see Hindy and co, namely Truswell and Goodwin rambling on about all sorts of nonsense during the time tv is off. Even more nonsense than they do during Le Mans. |

Stuart - Make sure you have transport available. Spend Friday deciding where you want to watch from. Certainly Pflanzgarten, Brunnchen and the Karussel have to be on your list. I wouldn't bother with the GP loop during darkness. Take a torch. Print out an entry list from the ADAC website before you go. And if you have one, take a stop watch, pick a couple of cars, and watch the gaps go up and down. Try and count how many cars the front runners overtake on each lap. Visit the museum. Have a go on the roller coaster. Build your own fire and cook some sausages. Stay up all night. Tell everyone how much fun you had when you get back. |

Amongst friends you can never remain controlled... it's just not natural. Look forward to listening in a lot earlier this year with the 'bonus' coverage. Didn't notice the Lexus was in there again. |

The Ring°Racer isn't running. It still isn't finished and not declared safe by TÜV. Right now it's just a huge waste of tax payers money. And the museum isn't worth the admission fee according to some posters on the nürburgring forum.
Otherwise enjoy the rest. |

I wish they would improve that ADAC site!
Free practice starts tomorrow and there isn't a lot of information flowing out. |
