Grant, accepted date for Escort MK1 launch must be '68 as 40th was in 2008- the year I built the Canary. Certainly hope 50th is worthy of celebration- Roll on 2018! Robyn, Group1 RS2000 is good bet for race series- CTCRC, CSCC and Top Hat over here and lots on mainland Europe. Or go for Cossie power, big wheels etc and Classic Thunder / Blue Oval / Heritage GT. |

Now the snow's melted I found my winter project again, wondered what the lump was in the drive. Being the proprietor of Kerbside Racing does have its problems, when the temperature falls so does the motivation....
Mike I see why you're rewiring your 924. I took a handful of wires out, it still looks like spaghetti, and now it won't start. Heigh-ho. |

Nice but what's it going to race in- being low volume (and 60s) TC not homologated for Gp1. Raced in Gp5 in period but doesn't really fit in to anything nowadays. Like a few interesting cars it is stuck in the middle betwen AppK Lotus Cortina era and RS1600 / RS2000 era. I think Masters allow into Touring 70s but has to retain 60s spec which would be some way behind the last (1975) Gp2 RS1600.

The only original bits left of my 924 loom are the rear end lighting bit and the ignition mudule wiring. The latter has ballast wire for coil so need to keep that intact- apparantly the Bosch electronic ignition doesn't like any other coil setup. Although car was already a racer the more I looked at wiring the more I disliked it. Eventually decided to start again! Re your non start- Injection has cold start air bleed and extra injector that are wired in. Maybe you have disturbed that. Also coil has voltage boost while cranking. Or maybe car doesn't like being under 2ft of snow... Have been lying on back under dashboard sorting out bits and pieces today. Glad that's over. Now need to get engine in to finish off all the underbonnet stuff. |

That my dilemma,i want to build something "interesting" but cant figure out whats the best spec for racing.
It was origionally a 1968 1300 super. Its been on the back burner for about 6 years. Fancied building a twink replica as ive got most of the major parts lying around. |

Twin Cam Escort cannot enter CTCRC Post Historics or Gp1. I had two of these cars in period one a completly standard minter the other Rally Prepared and went like a rocket. |

Loving the Escort stuff, Robyn mine is a 1300 also but a standard (don't think trim levels matched exactly out here). There is one out here running as a 1300GT, others as RS2000 and RS1600. Bit of a mystery there as some have the bubble arches - supposed to be standard bodywork, do they come under that description? Lancsbreaker that is an elementary thing, the local Falcon GT crowd can distinguish one month's production from the next by little differences in the shell! |

Yes, up to end of 1970 but only 1594cc and tuned within an inch of their lives 185bhp at most then.
At the end of the day, Robyn, if you want a twink then build a twink. Enjoy building it, then have fun using it. (You will ) John, Bubble arches were homologated but certainly not standard. Maybe the way your rules are written and interpreted? The shell differences on Escort TwinCams, Mexicos and RSs are well documented in the AVO Club and are very necessary when rogues try to pass off standard shelled cars as AVO ones......... Your Australian built cars were different again! |

Some Escorts were built in Oz, and that is where the differences happened. Yes- the AVO cars were based on H/D 'Export' shell that would have been used on mainstream models imported to SA, Australia, NZ etc. Then individual mods for each RS model..... |

Does anyone remember the series that CCC ran on the 1300 Escort. I think it was called something like the 'Clubmans car' They built one and had a few hotshoes drive it in some rally's I remember it got into the top 10 at the Manx. They had the like of Tony Pond driving it, or Andy Dawson, or Brookes or someone IIRC.
