Pizzonia won the first race!! Even more remarkably, his first race win in any professional series since F3000 Hockenheim 2001!

I can't help thinking Pizzonia winning downgrades the level of competition in the series and therefore the drivers within it. It was like when Adam Carroll waltzed in last year and cleaned house. Weak field means supersubs can come in and shine.

"Supersub" winning, 12 car grid(I don't really understand the point of going to Brazil if so few people can go there) and Barcelona 1994-like tyre chicane at the penultimate corner. Looks a bit busch league overall. |

I think that happened when Grosjean won the title in 2010 despite missing a third of the season. Ceccon winning last year despite only winning one race he should never have won didn't help with its credibility either.

I agree with you, guys. But, overall, I think this season had a better grid than the last two years. Despite Pizzonia's win, I think Adrian Quaife-Hobbs makes a favour to himself by winning the title against drivers like Sirotkin, Varhaug and Van Der Drift in such a dominant way.
Actually, Pizzonia's win is a slighty different than Carroll/Grosjean. I mean, he raced IndyCars and SuperLeague in the last few years and he took advantage of AQH/Super Nova mistakes. Anyway, how many times we could say that? Quaife was almost perfect the whole season! |

Adrian Quaife-Hobbs is 2012 Auto GP champion and Pizzonia win the second race in Curitiba.

I don't think having a guy like Pizzonia come in and be successful right off the bat is a bad thing. He might not be elite, but he's won in a diverse array of machinery all over the world, and having guys like that come in against young drivers learning their craft can be a very good thing. Likewise having people like Adam Carroll or Andy Soucek do the same. Lets be realistic, this series isn't exactly the chosen feeder to F1, but it still has the capability of producing very good racing drivers. I don't agree with the globetrotting, but it seems like Coloni is using that to form connections outside of Europe. Which could turn out to be a very, very smart move in the end. Dallara seems to be a big part of a revolution in sub F1 non ladder formula that could include IndyCar and Formula Nippon, and if AutoGP is the European version than that will give it credibility and separate it from the mess that is the ladder to F1.

This is a 550 BHP car with no tration control very little grip and a fantastic series to learn your trade if you can not find enough sponsors and budget to do GP2. This year Quaife-Hobbs has stepped up from GP3 and has had 5 pole positions ( including this last weeknd against Pizzonia ex Jaguer and Williams formula one driver. 5 wins 3 seconds a 3rd 4th and 6th and one DNF with i think 5 fastest race laps This weekend when he won the championship he just got unlucky, he showed his outright speed with P1 in both free pactices and then pole in Qualifying. And then got unlucky because in race one at the first pitstop he was right back in the mix to win the race after making a poor start and then unfortunatly handing Pizzonia a win when they had a 25 second dely in the pits with a faulty rear wheel problem. Race 2 Not much to say really, 35.8 lead over Pizzinia with 4 laps to go when coming into the pits and made a small mistake whilst pushing 10 10ths, wheel touching the grass and skated into the tyre wall and this tells you without the mistake and a pit stop taking around 26 seconds that he would have beaten Pizzonia on shear pace by around 10 seconds. Now before you all start saying (but he did not finnish) Quaife -Hobbs has driven at 10 10th all year and totally dominated this championship with a normal field of 15/16 cars and drivers with good pegigree,s like Van de Drift, Varhaug, Campana and Sirotkin who in my book have all been a bit useful in there Junior careers. So in my opinion idiots who write with opions should at least try to have some nowledge of there sports before making such rubbish comments about this great series which is a great training ground if you are not loaded with big bucks GP2. |

I have never heard such rubbish comments when you see how Quaife -Hobbs has totally blown away everybody in the field this year and Sirotkin is one for the future but him or anybody has not been able to live with Quaife -Hobbs this year and i think this shows his real talent when you think he has steeped up from a 280 BHP GP3 car and then one days testing and then strait into the season. Just have a look back through time sheets for whole year for every timed practice and qualifing including 5 poles out of 6 available. This is what i mean about people knowing what they are talking about instead of posting uninformed rubbish . |

What has happned this year is that Quaife Hobbs has totally dominated this championship against some other decent talent who you don,t seem to have heard of . Quaife Hobbs had a small blip this weekend with first race pit stop wheel problem and then in race two going off on pit entry driving at 10 10ths with a 36 second lead over Pizzonia with only four laps to go. With approx 26 second pit stop he would have beaten Pizzonia by about 10 secs. Pizzonia was and is still one of the very best single seater drivers around who was in F1 as a proper test and reserve driver for Williams and then as Williams F1 race driver and then went on to race for Jag for a season as Mark Webbers team mate. And then Quaife Hobbs out paces him all weekend topping time sheets in both free practices and then P1 in Qualifying. I think perhaps the armchair person who writes this do,s not have a clue about racing as with Van de Drift, Varhaug, Campana, and Sirotkin you have a collection of top you talent that is learning it,s trade in a great championship in a 550 BHP car. What i am saying is that Pizzonia was playing second fiddle to Quaife Hobbs all weekend apart from the breaks he got during the races and by the way he only qualified 3rd so prhaps with all his experience maybe you can see that this championship is a much higher level than you seem to think but by your comments i think you are one of those armchair racers who pass,s opionions on series and races when you do not seem to know any of the drivers or there talent. |

Nobody could seriously claim with any credibility that Auto GP has a good field.
Goodguy, maybe you missed it with all your stats but PIZZONIA turned up cold and won both races. That is HE WON BOTH RACES. AQH was "pushed most" all year by the driver who was the worst driver in GP2 last year by an enormous margin. |

Pizzonia has been racing as a proffesional top international race driver for many years including F1 and then the week before in Rio and if you followed this series at all you would know that he lucked in as in both races in the Auto Gp series. Quaife Hobbs had his measure particularly in the second race because without the mistake with 4 laps to go he would have beaten Pizzonia by some 10 seconds. Top talent like Quaife hobbs should be praised for how he has driven this year and not snipped at by some armchair racer who obviously can not see talent unless it is showing up as 1st place on a time sheet in GP2. |

Woah now, where's the fire?! steady on guy! I respect that you are partial to one driver or another but as a new member please can you show a bit of consideration towards the rest of the posters in the thread and section in general many of whom are extremely knowledgeable and as passionate as you appear to be. Many thanks!

These cars are 550 BHP no traction control etc with two compound of tyres with little grip to be used over a weekend, an pit stops in both races. There are many drivers in this type of formula who can not afford the budgets of GP2 and World series so it is bad for the sport and bad for drivers who are trying to keep there careers going to get noticed with people slagging off a championship with some good drivers and difficult cars to drive. Fortunatly most team principles and managers understand what is going on and judge the drivers on there talent and what they are producing on the track and i can guarantee that at least two or three of these drivers will climb higher up the ladder because of there exployts in Auto GP this year. |

we each have stories we've played a part in or been audience to that have affected us more than another. some part of a drivers story that parallels some of our own fights in life, for example. some people think more of a driver who has had physical struggles against injury or illness, others believe more in someone who has had other opportunities in their life and thrown them aside to pursue motorsport. what it all amounts to is different views and perceptions. and it's always harsh because sport is about judging people. to those with a different perspective on a persons story it always comes across as an attack, but it isn't. it's just a simple judgement. nobody is right, and nobody is wrong. but we should really all have the decency to listen to someone elses opinion and accept comment and counter-arguements to our own. and don't judge different people's passion for the sport because it comes in a different package to your own. we don't know your story as much as you don't know ours |
