Now, now.
Funny, usually Dijon in June is hot. Not this year. Back there in October, perishing cold! Portugal late October last couple of years? Not good. This year, mid 20s and sun..... Conclusion? It's a lottery! John, I'll email the 6hrs 'main man' and see if he can confirm. |

"But as RE says, maybe the huge commercialisation of Easter and lure of hunting chocco bunnies with the ankle biters has changed the holiday for ever." that sums it up, nicely ! that, and the arctic temp risk in March and April.. LM struck lucky several years in a row with the MM proximity of South England to the Gulf Stream helps but one year MM will be a snowdrift slalom in March RuE |

Yes, Lord M has been blessed with at least dry weather for mid March meeting! But snow / ice can occur in later months as well- remember the Oulton meeting a few years back which caused a furore when they salted the track? And I remember a 2013 track day at Sillystone (where we were due to test) being cancelled after it snowed all morning......
Oh to be located on the Iberian peninsular where the IHE held their initial race meeting this year on the first w/end in March, and have the last at the end of this month! |

The 200, as you say is close to the previous layout. IMO the old Sear was a pain, and now it's more of a chicane doesn't make it any worse for me. Coram is OK until it turns into Murrays! There are a lot worse corners to be found at some other circuits, however. Re, the 300 layout, I'm OK with it, Palmer is a great corner (again- IMO), and the others are no better or worse than many to be found elsewhere..... |

You mentioned Chantilly Arts et Elegance falling on 10th Sept. OK, a concours, but on my bucket list. I'd put it ahead of Goodwood on the desirability list for 2017- as a spectator, at least! |

I happened to be at the circuit on a test day just after the works had been completed, and lo and behold JP flew in and had lunch in Tyrells. As he finished and left the building, I congratulated him on all he and the team had done at his circuits, and for the first class work carried out at Snetterton. I did however follow up with the words that I thought he had buggered up Coram and Russell. He replied to the fact that he wanted to basically liven up and make that section more demanding for the drivers !!! Any of us who raced the old bend and corner know full well that it was one of the most exhilarating and take a deep breath sections of many a track. Why is it that when something works well, it has to be changed !!!!!!!!!! When all said and done though, Jamie and all the staff are great, and Gary and his missus do run a damn good eating establishment. |

It's funny how one's mind works, and what you can remember. Having raced at Snetterton 30 or 40 times during the 60s (as attested by my avatar, passing the phone box opposite the pits), I can clearly recall the Norwich Straight and the Hairpin at the end of it. I can also just about bring back mental pictures of driving through Russell's, but the rest of the track is just a blur.
What I do recall is that it was a friendly track, and I always thoroughly enjoyed racing there; in fact, it was my favourite and it suited my car and my driving. It was where I had a heart-stopping moment on my first racing lap at the circuit, and it was where I had my first overall win. I loved the track. |

Nice pic, Mike! When my Dad took me to Snett in the mid 1950s the best viewing point was from atop the huge mound opposite the pit straight! I can still remember climbing it....
BUT, this thread isn't about Snetterton, unless anyone wants to specifically answer John's question in #31. I'm sure we could have the same discussion on layout changes at Silverstone! Light bulb moment..... |

Vincent Collard has confirmed Spa 6hrs date as 15-17 Sept, as advised by John E a few posts back.
He has also given the date of his other Spa meeting, The Summer Classic. This will take place from 23-25 June 2017. Wonder if the 3 hour race will be a feature again? |

Yes but let's hope they just allow historic cars this time . None of those German clowns . "Sorry Rudolf". No offence to you . . I am impressed that all these dates seem to be published very early . The G P season not finished yet .

Next year's F1 dates have been out for some time, so unless something changes on their calendar, Historic organisers such as Goodwood can fix their dates. Then the rest can slot in...... |

As said a specific pre-season Test day - also often opportunity to test on the Friday at other circuits - eg half-day testing at Thruxton.... Not so helpful if you are racing Sunday, of course at a distant circuit as its another night's accommodation |
