[VASC17R9R10] Winton SuperSprint: 19-21 May
The circus heads to the southern teams' test track... except nobody seems to have tested there this year...
Will 888 find the magic formula, or will the DJRTP-ians find the way to lap the clothesline better than anyone else? Will WP figure out their missing? Will they consign the banana chassis to the dumpster.. or will it be more of the same? Can prodrive get form to last across all its cars, across a whole weekend? Only 2 weeks till we find out... |

Not certain on BJR.
Their form leading into last year's Winton dominance was there, or thereabouts. This year, they've been largely nowhere. Up til now, their whole program has been littered with DNFs, huge damage bills, self-inflicted or otherwise. I suspect it'll be more of the same we've had this year... DJRTP/Triple Eight/half, if not most of PRA/and maybe a GRM car or two. |

There will also be three extra cars racing, resulting in the biggest overall grid since 2013 and the biggest sprint round grid since 2010.
I'm curious to see how many main-game cars Golding, Davies and M. Jones will be able to beat. Not many, I imagine. I'll probably pay the most attention to Golding, since he hasn't been running in the DVS series this year even though he ended up 4th in the points last year after winning a couple of races this year. |

Will be interesting to see how Mssrs Davies, Golding and Jones go, especially up against the other back markers of the regular runners in LDM, Blanchard, Wood, M1HSVR .
Also how they go against their Big Brother Team mates. So who gets the #3 seat? I assume Mr Brabham will be back in the States by that stage. Will Taz's "Other Engagements" still provide a conflict? Will it be run out of Yatala? |

I'd say it'll be Taz again, if not Mr McConville.
My unstanding is that they'll be both part of the enduro line-up, likewise Aaren Russell. Unless other suitably-funded and licensed candidates are willing to step forward... |

Surely some consistency in driving the car will help the team |

Putting 'Son of Geoff' in the car at the weekend got them some media attention, but running at the back, and getting minimal teev, did neither the pilot nor team much good. |

No the most exciting track . Basically if you are in front and make it a wide car, it will be follow the leader.
Jump someone in the pits, by either short fueling, or only changing two wheels for the first stop and the other two and top up for the run home. Some have tried this before, hopefully not a wet weekend, a visit to the wet infield of Winton usually end in tears Still should suit a few steerers |

Winton favours those who rely on set up rather than horsepower. It is 3 kilometers long with a couple of short straights. Skaiffe hates it because he has never won there, he could never figure it out. Teams that are smart with set-up will do well
I like Winton for the fact it throws in the curly ones, you can rarely predict a winner as history has shown. It gives unpredictable winners. |

I went back to 1998 and I can't see a win for Skaife at Winton, there was no round at Winton in 2005
Edit: Found one, in 1992 5th April in a Skyline - well before v8 Supercar days Last edited by Trevor; 10 May 2017 at 08:08. |
