[VASC18R24] Rabble.club Sandown 500. 14-16th September (WITH POLL)
And now we turn back time of sorts with the Retro Round that is the Rabble.club Sandown 500. A fun time to see retro liveries, race suits, people dressing up and the like. (Yours truly will be busting out his 2004 Mobil 1 HRT shirt for a bit of fun which still fits even though it was bought for a 14 year old kid rather than a late 20's guy)
Will we finally see a fully completed 500km race or will the dreaded red flag come out again causing a shortening of the race? Will Tickford finally get their act together and get another surprise victory? Will Brad Jones Racing hopefully not have another car wrecked in such spectacular fashion? This track can throw a spanner in the works with both DJR Team Penske and Triple Eight Race Engineering have had some troubles here and there in the recent past compared to their usual fare; going from commanding leads to lucky to grab a podium or fairly strong finishing positions. Judging by past performance, Walkinshaw-Andretti-United would be a dark horse with their last enduro win with Tander and Warren Luff. Anyway, this is going to be good viewing at the track or on the screens back home. Bring on the first round of the Pirtek Endurance Cup! |

Agreed, some teams such as WAU really do kick it up a notch around the enduros.

A shame that the Naming Right's sponsor's driver gets a grid penalty at their event

Interesting to see DJRTP would be running a Seirra livery rather than a famous Falcon Shell livery (like the mid to late 90's or even early 2000's) since it's the last year for the Falcon nameplate.

It's a shame they continue to cheapen the history of the Sandown 500 by doing this retro side-show
If it has to be done, do it at an normal event that needs a lift. The Sandown 500 should be the attention getter on it's own. |

I agree, Retro shouldnt be at some of the main races of the year. I do love it but I want to go to Bathurst and ensure I have the yealy livery, no retro spin offs (as much as I like them)

Ah good ol' Firepower. Everyone thought it was going to be the next big sponsor until we all found out it was a scam company.

Seems Tekno have a new backer and vinyl wrap. How would they go making it into a 2016 Darrell Lea tribute livery? Would it be considered retro?

Perhaps he could begin with letting go of all that baggage that comes with carrying #18

The best liveries are always the simplest ones. Don't know what it is, maybe that they are done on computers but most cars look like they have had the kitchen sink chucked at them. Yet the best are the simplest.
The djrtp cars look better than they have all year as does Charlie's thing. |
