drbob's next car?
At Paul Ricard the two front running cars in the Sixtes Endurance race were Cobras and E type Jaguars.
Is there an alternative front running car Last edited by Mike Bell; 13 Nov 2019 at 06:56. |

Not really. There is a ‘64 bodied GTO (recent build) that can get close, driven by a Dutch pro, but it doesn’t race in PA. I don’t think a Bizza will beat the Cobras and E Types now- maybe a couple of years ago- and a GT350 has to be well ‘bent’ to get close. Yes, there is the odd one......

The GTO 64 at Imola lapped the whole Pre 66 field apart from 1 car I think at Imola in a 90 minute race last year, although it was driven by Nicky Pastorelli. You could argue now that the standard Cobra and E type are obsolete now given how good the Daytona Cobra is now as its got better aero than standard cobra and developed a lot aswell. As always depends on whos driving. |

Robert, matter of fact, Cobras and E's are at the maximum development acceptable AND very well driven. Why not considering a good TVR as an alternative?
I too noticed the fast GT350 but can say nothing about this particular one. Just asked JM why he was behind… |

Gentleman thank you for your suggestions.
I had thought of the TVR Griffith 200, the Shelby Mustang and in a quick review of the GT's homologated in 1964/65 noticed the Pontiac GTO. I would have thought the Shelby Mustang would be quicker than the GTO. Certainly over a lap rather than outright speed. Its slim pickings at the top of the grid. |

I can’t dispute you need glasses, Specsave perhaps?
Your question was, what car can be at front of 60’s endurance race other than Jag or Cobra My answer Elva, look at Dijon race lap by lap It’s a top ten/ five car if driven by two decent drivers The result only perspective is misleading. |

Ah I see now thanks Mike
I must admit I did not take much notice of what was happening at the front of the field apart from when they were lapping me Interestingly the TVR qualified in front of the Elva Only 3 Elva built though it seems |

Two cars with 2 litre BMW engine and one built up from
Bits much later with a Buick engine. The car that races is with a 2 litre BMW based engine In period Chris Amon used it as a road car! |

Neither of the BMW engined cars are for sale and owned by people who would be seduced by an offer. They both have collections.
Tried buying the third car but that’s owned by some Dane who seems to be impervious to having dosh thrown at him! Understand it needs a complete rebuild and has made a couple of false starts at rebuild but it came to nothing. |
