I remember Frank Freon had a big issue with a Mazda at Le Mans a few years back . They couldnt dial the porpoising out of the car for most of the weekend . They did in the end but Freon said that it was a nightmare to drive !

Wait until you somehow argue against your own point of view, since it has evolved since the last time you posted!!!!
Anyway, I for one can't stop being excited about the new Porsche. My non-racing friends don't understand the babble, the cold sweats, and the giddy talk about the new Porsche. I have offered to let them see the video and they keep turning me down! robert |

There's a very interesting news article on Mike's website which originated from Racecar Engineering Magazine. Seems the design of the Porsche RS Spyder was funded by Don Panoz in a bid to increase factory involvement in the ALMS. You can link to Mike's 'News' page here.

And the source for this revelation? he asked, fully expecting a somewhat less than impressive answer! Paddock gossip perhaps? Or maybe a 'source' elsewhere - Sounds like the sort of stuff that gets thrown around quite late in the evening after somewhat too much 'refreshment'

This story first appeared in December at www.racedayonfox.com in an article comparing the ALMS to G/A. Guess nobody picked up on it as the site is mostly NASCAR.

Thanks for the link - An interesting article but nowhere does it say that Dr Don did anything other than "he has helped fund the building of the new Porsche LMP2 cars" realistically, even if true, that could mean absolutely anything.

Does it really matter if Don funded the design or not? The bottom line is the Spyder gavethe ALMS a much needed shot in the arm. How it got there is of little importance to me (outside of breaking the law of course).

The really interesting bit about this is the Honda subtext.

Yes! I am suprised that nobody is talking about that instead of who funded what!

Rich, that's exactly what Ingram is insinuating.

I'd say, tentatively, I guess so.
Michael Andretti has been at a lot of ALMS races this year along with Marco; Kim Green was also at some. (For that matter, Bobby was at the same races, with Graham.) I'm sure there was some discussion of possible synergies. Whether that comes to anything... |
