25 cars in Production GT should make good racing too.

37 F5000's for the last two weekends of January at the NZFMR BMW.
That is 'a grid' and adds up in history, dollars on view, HP or speed, plus a few names and they will break the 60s mark at HD with any luck. This is something to watch and promote. |

25+ is a grid even if they are Sunday drivers, at least the track is busy. my original thoughts on the Porsche series was a bunch of Sunday drivers with their wicker baskets, until they got decent cars/drivers on the grid!! |

I haven't heard a thing. What I would like to know is whether Chassis No1 has had much testing since Bargs tried it out before Christmas, and if it has proven itself as a top-notch race car (or not).
Or is this a 2nd iteration with modifications deemed necessary after testing No1. If you look at V8Supertourers way of approaching this, they built more than one chassis and did thousands of laps of testing before they got to the actual "production" version. Those prototypes will not be sold as race cars. |

Further to my last post, I would to ask an open question. Why would anyone commit to one of these new chassis until they have been proven and acknowledged as a quality piece of kit?

Faith.
They have faith in the people involved. Also, it doesn't matter. If the cars are all the same then it doesn't matter. |

It depends on your perspective Mr R.
If you're sitting in the stand and just watching, then it wouldn't matter to you. But if you're evaluating the purchase of one and intend being very hands-on, I believe the quality of the chassis is very important. I thought Icarus put it well when he said (slightly edited); "Believe it or not, in a spec class it is even more critical. If a chassis is flexing, with every cycle the stiffness reduces. Teams end up chasing the car because previous setups no longer work. Ever harder springs get thrown in and the dampers have no influence. The car is unbalanced most of the time and burns tyres. More testing is required (on mismatched tyres) and so the vicious cycle continues. The easiest answer is to have a chassis which is as stiff as possible. Have a torsional test and bend test been performed to establish baseline figures? If I was buying one this would be an important question before shelling out" That say's it all really! |

Yes. I agree.
However the chances of that being the case are pretty damn slim! |

Thanks promax. I was aware of the 'mule' on TM, but I wondered if they might have made more changes again. I think V8ST got to No3 before they were completely happy.
So where's all the spin on the McKenzie car? What they've done in testing, how successful everything has been...you know the sort of things I mean. I'm not taking the mickey, I really would like to hear something. |

if the 'slippery outlaw' is heavily involved, there won't too much to much positive to report.

Who are the two drivers out of Dunedin helping fill the grid this weekend? What have they done before and whose cars are they using?

Ross Cameron not only raced at the Ruapuna round.. he was a confirmed driver at the start of the season. Cameron has competed in OSCA, Formula Ford, Formula Atlantic, HQ, RX7, V8 Development Series and NZGT.

OK so Ross Cameron - what car is that he is driving?
Anyone know anything about Malcomn Budd? What's he done? What chassis is he driving? The 'Slippery Outlaw' wouldn't be a ChCh based team owner would it? Also known as IBM or something like that. |

Statement from Shayne Harris, President, MSNZ - (14/01/2012)
The New Zealand V8s championship is being contested by the current Schedule TL Holden and Ford V8s this season (2011-12) and in 2012-13, with the new car being transitioned into competition in that season too. This is the undertaking given to NZV8s franchise holders at the commencement of the new car programme. There is a clear pathway for current Schedule TL NZV8s and there will continue to be racing opportunities into the future. The statement by SuperTourers that they plan to set up a new competition because there is nowhere for the current championship cars to race in the future is incorrect. If anything, SuperTourers are trying to undermine the very championship in which many of the country’s top saloon car drivers made their name. In the 2013-14 season the NZV8s championship will be contested by the new space frame championship car and the Schedule TL cars will race for a special trophy within the NZV8s category alongside the new car. The current championship cars are built and homologated to MotorSport New Zealand Schedule TL specification and may only race in championship events and such other events as are agreed between NZV8s Ltd and MotorSport New Zealand. MotorSport New Zealand owns the intellectual property of Schedule TL. Recognising that Schedule TL cars are now using old technology, the new NZV8s championship car, which will be powered by Ford or Holden engines and fitted with appropriate bodies according to competitor’s choice, has been developed. A new technical specification schedule will be prepared by MotorSport New Zealand when the final testing of new engines, sequential transmission and other technologies is complete. When the new NZV8s championship car is tested ready for racing, competitors will be invited to purchase them. They are expected to cost approximately $150,000 in ready to race form. MSNZ owns the designs and jigs for the new car and will not release them for sale until satisfied they are ready for competition. Owners of cars with Schedule TL logbooks have been advised that if they wish to race their cars outside the NZV8s championships or other events agreed by MSNZ and NZV8s Ltd, then they need to apply for a Schedule A logbook and compete in events with racing permits for Schedule A racing. |
