Rattle noises on start up that sounded like a dry lifter. The dealer couldn't or wouldn't fix it so it was time to sell it

A friend of a friend put his into the local Holden dealer for a regular service and was told, it won't be ready today, come back tomorrow. They replaced the engine, under warranty, without being asked.

Now it's time to get the DVD and Sat Nav fitted to the XR6. After market is cheaper and it fittes into the orginal radio spot and uses the same display unit

Some people are just unlucky. My VT11, HSV R8 is up to 85,000ks. Never used a drop of oil (well, all motors use oil - problem if they don't. Still, I've never put oil in my motor, apart from the usual 10,000k services), almost silent motor, hauls better now than it ever did, etc. No, it's not hi-tech. It's got pushrods, and things like that. Still, despite all the stuff I've read on websites, it seems to me that there's a noisy minority when it comes to LS1s.
I guess when it comes to Holden and the GM LS1, everyone settles along their usual Holden / Ford biases. I don't have to worry about that stuff. I'm biased as a Holden owner, but not biased enough that if I wasn't happy with my car (and motor) that I wouldn't complain. The thing hauls and goes. It's quiet and doesn't use oil. Still, I don't suppose the rest of the huge silent majority of LS1 owners would bother with websites like this when they're happy with their car. |

BTW, this isn't anti-Ford but the builder doing some work at my place has just bought an XR6 turbo ute. Very red, and looks very smart, I must say. (DD4545 for anyone seeing David around the Windsor area.) He only had it a few days, and a piece of wood on the road got kicked up by another car and came straight through the bottom intake. I don't know what lies behind that intake, but it holed a radiator (not the main radiator). Do XR6Ts have an intercooler? He's now had a chrome grille fitted in there, so I couldn't see what got hit. He said the place making these grilles can't make enough of them. Looks good, and may be something for other XR6T owners to consider. We went for a brief run in it to another site he has, and it's a very nice thing. Last edited by Aarrgh8; 2 Jun 2004 at 21:23. |

colinbond, what do you think if the manual driveline?
got any clunking or vibrations? I've got both in mine, its going back to the dealers yet again after multiple new drive shafts, a new diff and a half shaft. There is talk of the big harmonics balancer on the back of the diff being stuffed now, and gear hash. |

The drive line is a lot more quite than the GenIII manual drive line on the SV8. There is a clunck from the diff but it is purely the cones in the Limo locking up and letting go and it only happens when hot. But it is a BTR issue so it's ok
