Sorry I didn't get back for a longer natter on Friday, Iain - my mates said it was too cold to go back in there , and of course we kept bumping into other people we knew, even, at the death, Jasperclan (Peter) who was sporting some stylishly tank-taped shoes as apparently his had fallen apart with the unaccustomed walking

Had a long day at Race Retro, and a looooooong haul back up the M6 - already loaded up because the M6 toll road Northbound was closed from around 10 am for six or so hours because someone "fell" from a bridge ( why does that make the motorway a "scene of crime"? ), and then delays on the M6 compounded by at least 3 cars driving into each other in lanes 3 & 4 - the waterbabies had to be called out to cut the roof off one..........
So on Saturday I was looking forward to a rest...apart from having organised a reunion for my old rally club (Bury Auto Club) which we are winding up after a dearth of new members. I joined the Club in 1972 (it became affiliated to the RAC in 73) and a few of us older members had been scouring our memories to remember names of old members and then trying to find those we'd lost contact with. I'd ended up with a spreadsheet of over 140 names - though I'd reckon there were probably 100 or so more over time, but we managed to get over 80 together on Saturday, and after straining the braincells to recognise some people who I hadn't seen in over 30 years - whereas others seemed magically not to have changed - it was a great afternoon and evening of memory swapping, catching up on gossip, and lots of "the older we are the faster we were" tales. People are already asking if we can do it again next year......I think I'll just invite them all to Race Retro - it'd be a lot less work |

Can’t see hear going round Snetterton this morning. Apparently the A11 has just made national news as it is at standstill due to snow...... confirmed looking on a live traffic map- everything is red!

Following several days of Spring like weather the snow has finally hit Luton big time. Overnight there must have been a massive blizzard, and we now have almost an inch of snow, drifting to up to two inches in places.
I do not know how I will cope. |

Lynn on the beeb said the A11 was 'blocked by snow'. No, its blocked by drivers that can't cope with the snow.....

Another lovely sunny morning here but I'm not venturing out since I've got the lurgy. Just hope it sorts itself out in time to go to Antwerp at the weekend. |

We've just got back home from a hospital appointment in Newcastle - about 58 miles away, normally takes about 1hr 20mins via either the A1 or A19. Set off at 6am for a 9.30am appointment - got there at 10.30am! But they managed to fit us in because some of the 'locals' had cancelled appointments as they couldn't get there!
Most of the A1 traffic was doing about max 30mph in the nearside lane - my little 4x4 took to the offside lane quite happy at 45mph until both lanes became blocked and then stationary for 1.5 hours just 10 miles from the hospital. |

A few more snaps from Mallory.
Iain seems to like it. Martin seems to be enjoying it too I was going to take some more shots form the outside of the circuit for a change but it felt several degrees colder out there and then the snow started. So I thought better of it. |

Quite a lot more snow on the way home - enough to start to cover the road in some places. However north of Ibstock was suddenly much lighter and north of Ashby hardly any at all.

Very nice! And Iain was probably in the warmest place, explaining why he did so many laps! |

Well what a great car. Its been over 45 years since I last raced an Escort Mexico at Brands Hatch.I ,did around 20 laps and handed over to Martin. He was on the pace straight away. The diff started getting noisy and as I went out for another run I decided it was too noisy so we loaded up and retired to the cafe just as the snow came down.BTW Peter, we had the dampers on that I bought of you a few years ago. The car was perfect just perfect I am not going to change a thing apart from diff rebuild. Happy Happy days.

The VSCC John Harris Trial (Derbyshire) scheduled for this coming Saturday has just been cancelled due to the snow etc. Sensible decision but disappointing.

All our kart racing has been cancelled this weekend. as well. A disappointment but a good shout - motor sport is only something the drivers do for fun, it's not worth getting hurt for. I'm sure we could all get through, but what's the point? Leave the roads clear for emergency drivers and essential services.

According to some prog I saw on the beeb recently, running is good for your knees. Well, to be precise, better for them than walking. So no excuses, Max.....

I note that the Spike TV channel will be showing a programme on the Flying Scot, possible Friday. I know some here take an interest in such things.

Hahaha well maybe it's the walking round kart tracks every weekend. At least we run electric start engines now, I'm too old for the run and bump lark! But why do they insist on being so low down

Bob, it's on Channel 5, and it's a series that starts tomorrow at 20.00, The Yorkshire Steam Railway which will feature the Flying Scot on the 1st episode.
