Acapulco is I believe in Mexico. If it's the same place I'am thinkin' of.
I believe that this was to be the place were they where building a new track. But don't quote me on that. I seem to remember them trying to get a F1 event in the future, but l don't think anythign materialized out of it. As for snow plows to clear a track in Canada. Trust me I've seen it been done. can you imagine a race on Jan 1...get out the mittens and toques. |

Its early days yet and the race would likely not be until december again due to the heat.

Brno is an excellent idea, if I may say so myself - oh hang on, I did, in this forum a couple of months ago!
Glad that they are moving the Mexican round, can't say I liked that track plus a venue where A1 stands alone (i.e. does not have Champcar or whatever else) would theoretically get a better crowd?. If I remember rightly San Antonio was originally planned for this season but wasn't going to happen in time. I guess it will be a street circuit, better for a carnival atmosphere and better crowd as well perhaps. Would be surprised if there was no China. I hope there is a strong crowd next weekend but a lot of people here in Shanghai only go to motorsport as a novelty and have already been to F1. It would be much better in Beijing (you would get an enormous crowd), which was the original plan for this season but the track there is too small. Would Sydney mean Eastern Creek again or a street track like has been discussed in this forum before? |

As a motor racing fan attending the race I would much prefer Eastern Creek to any Sydney street circuit. As a taxpayer I would much prefer to see the money spent on hospitals ,schools or even permanent sports facilities than a street circuit. When ALMS was sniffing around the NSW government a few years ago looking for a deal an EIS was done on the Homebush site proposed for the street circuit and it was strongly rejected on environmental grounds. As much as V8 Supercars and Ron Dickson's A1 circuit construction company might want it a Sydney street race is not going to happen. Also the proposed calendar has only 9 rounds which seems very short for an international series.

As a motor racing fan who lives in Sydney, i would love to see a street race held in Homebush. Plain and simply Eastern Creek is a boring Venue, hence the reason there is no Moto GP or V8 Supercars there at the moment. Sydney siders are too interested in their money and dont know how to enjoy themselves anymore. We have the best city in the world to host such events if only the whingers would shut up!!!

Hello,
When A1GP was first being thought of I understood it to be a winter series and more southern hemisphere than north for obvious reasons. A bit like the old Tasman series of old but travelling more. Are the organisers now realizing that there isn't a demand for motor racing in some of the "new" countries visited in this season and are now trying to cash in on the traditional areas to make some money. Granted its new and may take some time (and publicity) to gain acceptance, but they need to perservere with the winter format. I have only seen a couple of races because a friend recorded them for me so perhaps the TV rights need to be addressed. If A1GP tries to lengthen the season either end to incorporate some European and northern hemisphere countries it will just end up as yet another alternative series like Euro F3000, World Series by whatever etc etc and lose its special appeal i.e. a winter series when nothing else is on. Personally I dont think that A1 is on any rocky ground at the moment with regards to the calender, yes a few races have taken place during the end of the regular season and at the start of the regular 2006 calender, but only just, and when the 2005/2006 A1 championship began most series had just about finished their season with a few exceptions.
A 10 round calender like we have had this year is fine, IMO. The only stumbling block I think could be if the A1 organisers ever want to expand the calender to over 10 venues per season. |

I have just read about a double header, Zandvoort on Oct 1 and Brno on Oct 8. Supposedly it will be announced tomorrow (Friday).
I was originally hoping to go to that football thing in June but I might have to fly over to Europe for the motorsport World Cup instead! Later start to the season should mean all the first choice drivers available from the opening round. |

Report in Autosport today says that the developers of an international-standard track in Iceland are targeting A1GP for the country's first permanent circuit.

It is the second year of a championship that is trying to be very different to the others, it will take time.
It's no coincidence that the 3 confirmed rounds so far (Zandvoort, Brno & Brands) are all European; they would have a full schedule announced already if they were just going to run on traditional circuits, but that isn't what A1 wants to do - finding new places to race takes longer than just booking an everyday circuit for the weekend (especially when there is no other racing going on). |
