I think Sauber's improvement was with a little help from their friends (Scuderia Ferrari).
I don't think Renault will offer such help, and in fact McLaren (perhaps foolishly) have not announced that they will purchase and use a Renault gearbox & rear suspension to save time and money, which IMO is a mistake. Indeed, McLaren will even use different oil and fuel than Renault, which also seems unwise for a customer team that should (IMO) be aligning as closely with their manufacturer team as possible. |

McLaren have signed a multi-year deal with British American Tobacco. They needed a major sponsor, after parting company with Honda.

What loophole are they using for this? Is it claiming that lucky strike is a clothing brand or something because they have a bit of merch? Well, I guess that Ferrari got away with Marlboro after the outright ban, though it no longer has the brand name on the cars.

Be interesting to see if this is a big deal or small, as many of their “big” announcements have turned out to be quite minor.

I think this will be a short lived return, the Australian Health Dept is already questioning Philip Morris Mission Winnow branding on the Ferrari and others may follow suit if they see tobacco brands using F1 to promote smoking substitute brands and devices. Chief marketing officer of BAT Kingsley Wheaton said the company will use the new partnership to "drive greater resonance" of its e-cigarette and tobacco heating products. |

There’s still something really strange at McLaren. If you wanted to try to design a worse livery than that, well I’m really not sure that would be possible...

Im a Mclaren fan, but sure its not the prettiest livery. I think they are a little too keen to distance themselves from the last few years of poor performance, they want to look EDGY

Well if it’s fast the colour scheme won’t matter!
One thing I would want as a sponsor is for ‘my’ car to be easy to spot on a grid or in a pack of cars. I think the Macca scheme will be. Of course if it’s on the front row, then even easier..... |
