We are now 48 entries. 6 more to go....Reminder to anyone with an HFF specced car; you don't have to register with HSCC or any other club to enter this race.
That goes for a first time outing at any of our Championship races too. If you have a pre-72 FF call in at our hospitality tent if you are going to the Classic or at any of our HSCC races. The kettle's on! |

A great shame that this FF1600 race is on the same day as the first Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit (July 27th) round of the Champion of Brands that had been on the calendar since January. At least FF1600 runs on two GP tracks in Britain on the same day.......

Report....
Well what can you say? The sight of 54 Formula Fords of bygone days brought joy to many, ecstasy to some and a downright worry to the marshals! To go all that way, to go to all that trouble of preparation and expense; staying on the track and finishing was a fine result and a great end of the weekend....for most. Qualifying: Friday. Louis Hanjoul’s car decided to part company with Louis Hanjoul in the form of a con-rod through the side of his block (filmed no less - and repeated for all on the circuit screens!) to become the precursor of a Torrey-Canyon-like lake of oil. At least FIVE following cars becoming embroiled in an uncontrollable dance of hit or miss. Fortune favoured some but not Julien Pearce who took damage in his Lola and novice Dan Pickett who was going very well also pirouetted, took a wheel off and bent his Merlyn chassis. Result; Red Flag 1. Red Flag 2 .... Ex Champ and long-time campaigner Dave Lowe was next. A rearending in the limited time we had left ended his rear and his weekend before it started. A misjudged overtaking manoeuvre from another resulted in Dave watching not doing. Sincere and profuse apologies followed which was good manners. Thanks to the orange suit brigade for sorting us out though. Race 1 (This, you might realise, is not a complete report!). The crowds came (most of the one hundred thousand not actually making it to watch us a 9am), those that did saw the action. We made a show of it mainly from battles behind the runaway Macleod machine sometimes in packs, other times in twos and threes but some damn fine racing was going on more than making up for a bad practice start. Everyone had their story to tell, the buzz afterwards told many tales. Silverstone Classic Historic Formula Ford Newsletter # 9 Sam Mitchell, Benn Simms, Callum Grant, Darwin Smith, James Buckton, Robert Wainwright, Tiff Needell, William Nuthall & Pertti Kiiveri followed Callum Macleod to make the top ten in race 1, 4th to 8th finishing within a second or so. It meant we supplied a sight of tight racing that people came to watch (even though on a wideopen track like Silverstone shows up the tiniest of speed differentials). Four cars from Callum G to Robert at the finish had ONE TENTH OF A SECOND between them. Race 2 was as tight, 2nd to 4th was a similar amazing and typical perfect balance of judgement performed by our guys; Callum Grant, Sam and Benn lap after lap with HALF a second covering their every move. Precision driving at it's very best with the best of camaderie and a fag paper between them. You did us proud! The rest of us weren't much different in our own sweet way. Most had chasing and being-chased experiences. You only have to look at the results to see how 90% of us at the finish had someone within one second either behind or in front to entertain or be entertained by..that is not a lot in a 2.5 mile circuit! Men of the match for me were Andrew Ames and Roland Svensson. Roland suffering a puncture in race 1 on the first lap made 20 places and Andrew a whopping 25 places in the second race from the back of the grid. At that rate they would have lapped the winner if they'd started in their rightful positions...well, not quite, but you know what I mean... A stunning sight of cars and the best of racing we are told. May be next time we and I'm sure the F.Juniors will have a more rightful spot somewhere near the expensive part of the programme. We might not make a lot of noise but boy, we are fun to watch. Proper racing.... Thank you all for making the effort on a grand pose weekend, let's go back to clubby meets now - you don't need damn arm bands and you can go where you like without being policed...... Saturday Night at the Barby. The lake-side BBQ worked very well thanks to some hard-working souls (mainly wives supported by our very own masterchef, John Slack. A big thanks you to all). The lake wasn't actually there at the start I have to say, as the monsoon hit us it miraculously appeared... how the BBQ was lit was an achievement in itself, but it worked and we had a good social time. The famous 60's band of the Hollies probably went home through the downpour in disgust though... CROFT: 2-4 August While we are on the subject of partying…. Barbara Dix is planning a “bit of a do” this Friday evening at Croft and she sent the following invite to us all… “FRIDAY NIGHT IS PARTY NIGHT AT CROFT! Stuart Dix will shortly hit 65 and to celebrate this we are having "A bit of a do" at Croft on Friday evening from 7.30 pm onwards. We would love any HFF drivers plus their family and friends to join us for some hot food. Please bring your favourite tipple and chair to Chez Dix (the red and white truck)”. I apologise about the short notice but please let me know how many will be in your party by Thursday (latest). On either of the following: Landline 01782 771967 Mobile 07989 756006 email Barbara_dix@sky.com (Editor) Let her know soon please. Barbara is rather famous for her extra-special chilli con carne and super pork dish, I don't know what is on the menu but you can be sure it'll be good (much better than our burnt sausages..!!). Don't forget there is another party on Saturday night, Crofts very own 40's Live Band & Supper Party at their Pavilion. (Phone number below.) Oh and by the way we have two races!!! Almost forgot.... We are on at 11 am and 3.30 Saturday and 3pm Sunday. A brilliant circuit, a big show too it REALLY is a great show with a terrific atmosphere with a forties theme and the organisers put a lot into welcoming us. Dress in your Dads best (flat cap an'all) and look the part. It is understood that our Mr Mike Wales will be 'cutting a dash' as a fully uniformed Flight Commander for the weekend as well as a racing driver, come on, see what's in the attic! To book your Saturday Night Supper & Dance Tickets (£7pp) contact the circuit 01325 721815 NOW! You won't get them on the day. See you there? Good Racing. Dick Dixon. |

I'm always confused by gearing questions. A Scandanavian asked me what i used as top when at Snetterton 'same as anywhere else - 4th i helpfully responded'

HH Tech. It is no secret what gearing we use for the Classic and you will be welcome to the info. We may have a devoted HFF website up & running soon and you can get no end of advice (and you will!) if you ask there.
It is unlikely we will be back at the Classsic again this year as they do like to change the programme but we do have an interesting calendar including the same circuit and at other (better?) circuits. You are welcome to join us for one race without having to pay membership to HSCC after that you have to pay £150 for competitors membership. We do get fully booked though so there may not be any guarantees. Pertti Kiiverii and Roland Svensson come over to race with us from Finland & Sweden and have 'parking facilities' over here, they seem to have fun and I'm sure they could have a chat with you at some point. You will be welcome to join us. Dick D. |

This was sent out to all last month. Might be of interest to some of you wanting to join us. The HFF's may increase the amount of two-race meetings this year too.
Hope to see you at some of them. Dick Dixon, Drivers Rep. HSCC reveals 2014 calendar The Historic Sports Car Club has taken the wraps off its 2014 calendar, which is headlined by high-profile events on the Silverstone and Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuits and a repeat of the Thruxton historic event over the Easter Weekend. In total, the club will organise 18 days of racing for its members next season, which continues the steady increase from 15 in 2010 and 17 in 2013. Season highlights include the International Trophy on the Silverstone Grand Prix circuit (17/18 May), the Autosport three-hour meeting at Snetterton (7/8 June), the Historic Super Prix on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit (12/13 July), the Croft Nostalgia Weekend (2/3 August) and the Oulton Park Gold Cup (24/25 August). The Thruxton Easter event will benefit from the later date for Easter in 2014 (19/20 April), while the Wolds Trophy meeting at Cadwell Park moves to a new mid-summer date (21/22 June) and will again celebrate Formula 3. The Autosport Three-Hour meeting at Snetterton will have a fresh look as the main race is likely to focus on GT cars from the Guards Trophy while the sports-racing cars have a separate race over an extended duration. The Brands Hatch Historic Super Prix will avoid a clash with the Goodwood Festival of Speed, while the traditional September date on the Indy circuit at Brands Hatch will grow to a two-day event. The Anglo-French Weekend will feature a number of French historic racing categories. “I believe we have a perfect calendar for next season,” said HSCC Chief Executive Officer Grahame White. “Our members will be able to race on all the major UK tracks including the Grand Prix circuits at Silverstone and Brands Hatch.” The provisional HSCC calendar is: Sun 6 April Donington Park (Season Opener) Sat/Sun 19/20 April Thruxton (Easter Revival) Sat/Sun 17/18 May Silverstone GP (International Trophy) Sat/Sun 7/8 June Snetterton (Autosport 3-Hours) Sat/Sun 21/22 June Cadwell Park (Wolds Trophy) Sat/Sun 12/13 July Brands Hatch GP (Historic Super Prix) Sat/Sun 2/3 August Croft (Nostalgia Weekend) Sun/Mon 24/25 August Oulton Park (Gold Cup) Sat/Sun 27/28 September Brands Hatch Indy (Anglo-French Weekend) Sat 18 October Silverstone National (Finals Day) Dates for individual championships and series, including the Historic Formula 2 Championship, Martini Trophy and Super Touring Trophy will be announced shortly. Club members will also have the opportunity to race at Spa-Francorchamps during the Classic Six-Hour meeting (19-21 September). In addition, the HSCC will once again be organising the racing element of several key events in 2014, including the Donington Historic Festival (3-5 May), the Silverstone Classic (25-27 July) and the Walter Hayes Trophy (1/2 November. For more details about the HSCC, please visit www.hscc.org.uk |

http://www.silverstoneclassic.com/Content/RaceGrids We will have to find another event worth driving 1000miles one way for |

Surely HH tech this is food for thought; combining a Classic FF race one weekend with an Historic FF the weekend after? If you plead hard enough maybe each Championship might give you a guaranteed race so you can plan early.. you can but ask..
No non-standard bits fitted for the HFF's though please. |
