V8SC To Fund Female Main Game Driver From 2017!!
Quote:
http://www.smh.com.au/sport/v8-super...23-gmcm8w.html V8 Supercars is putting its money where its mouth is to find a female driver good enough to race full-time at the elite level. To back a declared ambition to have a woman competing in the main championship as soon as next year, V8 Supercars will provide the funding for a team to run a female who has the potential to match the established male drivers. The sanctioning body has taken the unusual step of securing sponsorship for a full-time female competitor to accelerate interest among top-tier V8 teams. Believed to be worth around $1 million, the commercial support for a female racer in the title series will be available from 2017. Good move by v8 supercars, seems a lot of sports are promoting female inclusion at the moment, a akey difference with v8s is that there does not need to be a sub league to achieve it
Not sure eitherr of the two dunlop series girls will be up to standard in 2017 though Are there some other OS racers that meet the standard |

I've always thought that positions should be filled on merit rather than gender.

All she did was practice. By the time she got into the car in the race it was many laps down so she hasn't even "raced" yet. In practice and in the race she drove to the level you would expect from a top international import. Did she do any better than Marie Claude Beaumont for example? people already want quota's for types of bodyshapes used, why not this next? |

I think the fact that she got that car into the 2.08's with VERY good consistency at Bathurst, which she hadn't driven before, shows how good she is.
If you look at the experienced guys who went on to drive that car and had big trouble wringing speed out of it shows just how good the performance was. |

That car was not capable of the lap times #111 could produce, let alone the other three in the PRA stables.
All things aside, she acquitted herself well. Ashley Freiberg is a name worth Googling. |

So if there's a female driver out there who is good enough to make the main game, you're telling me the teams wouldn't be jumping over each other to sign her? Danica, Brittany Force etc have shown how marketable women drivers can be. Hell, Danica even makes it to the public voted for hall of fame race.
Not sure if this is just a way to keep supercars in the news over the break, a look how tolerant and female friendly we are funding a pussy wagon that will be surrounded by scantily clad grid girls come race day, or both. |

You need results to leverage the marketability, and vice versa.
As Ms Gracie's people are probably starting to realise, it's one thing to be good with the fans, and come across as approachable and likeable on TV, etc, but it only gets you so far when you're bumbling around at the back of the field, writing every season off as a 'learning year'. |

If you're female and you've got the skills I reckon you'd be fighting them off with a stick, thus rendering supercars funding redundant. If you're female and don't quite have the skills, I reckon, like many of the lads, you could always pay your way in, thus rendering supercars funding redundant |

What happens if the funded female driver doesn't have any success, what do we do then?
Approach Mr Dane and get her a gig driving a T8 car? Bathurst may have been a tad more interesting for the pussywagon if Simona had been in a better car, with a more capable co- driver! Interesting times for the PC brigade. Won't it be fantastic for V8 fans when we have have first transgender, aboriginal, gay, disabled teenager father of six win Bathurst, while working on a native mission on his/ her PHD, on the effects of global warming! |

Just another bandwagon everyone is jumping on.....
I don't really care who drivers, as long as they can drive and are not there to fill some sort social demographic, gender equality, pay scale, KPI, TV ratings, tickets sales, merchandise, money grabbing agenda!! Forget the so call pussy wagon sexist comment, I think ponying up an extra million in sponsorship is far more sexist. What's the extra cash for?? The damage bill?? Seriously Supercars, focus on the impending changes in the sport that could see the whole things cave in on itself, rather than some side show... |
