HUNGARORING CLASSIC (Peter Auto)
New event. Just getting there will be a challenge! And they don't use the Euro as currency....

Florints obtained, Hungarian road tolls sorted, new atlas and maps purchased, so let the adventure begin! It's actually no more of a trip than Portimao from N France (or Paul Ricard to Portimao next month) but in another direction.....
From the paddock and boxes allocation, Grid sizes look smaller than usual for Peter Auto, but not yet seen actual entry lists. Now need to learn hello, thank you and beer please in Hungarian...... |

Looks very nice. I'll be gigging in a field in Kent.
Will, Maybe they thought you were one of those Porsche drivers with a propensity for pirouetting at 80 mph in the middle of the track to deploy your DRS |

Well, looks like most have made it, several from the UK with stories to tell about their journey! Weather so far is gentle September sun and cool nights, just like UK should be this time of year. Circuit has good free wifi and excellent facilities, so impressed so far. Bit of a hiccough when I was told the truck would need to be parked about a mile from the paddock. After some strong insistence that it was not acceptable, now have good spot behind boxes and close to toilets. Pays to get to circuits early!
Late to the party are the French Sunoco trucks, which were rumoured to being held by customs at the Hungarian border. Hope they're here now as free practice at 0900 and no fuel in cars...... |

Good to know it's happening, though. The Hungarian's seem very pleased to have some of the best historic racing cars in Europe visiting their country, and it's a little disappointing that some competitors chose not to support Peter Auto and travel to the event. This may impact whether the event is repeated in the future...... |

I think it would be a great shame if this event is not repeated! Was a well put together, and as Mike has said, well supported event. The general public could not have been more pleased to see the cars, with loads coming up to say thank you for bringing the cars over for them to see!
Circuit itself is very very smooth, with minimal grip, but plenty of elevation and camber changes making it tricky to get a quick time in, with plenty to be lost by over driving. Although a relatively short straight this is another power circuit, with the cobras dominating....not even the Meaden 26R could get in the mix! For us it was a relatively easy weekend with no major dramas, although we were disappointed not to annoy more of the 911’s. Our only minor issue, was when the mechanic (also known as me!!) failed to set the front tires to the correct pressure for the 1st part of the race....over inflated tires cause massive understeer in a 356 apparently, sorry Dad!!! |

for those who were NOT there, and for those who were there, see attachment and yes it should be repeated, although for next year there seem to be plans to rebuild some of the main track building, such as the Media Room. |

It's all right for those that flew home- some of us are still homeward bound!
Apart from the long haul to Budapest and back, very much enjoyed the event. Maybe bi-annual would work, alternating with another far flung location? |
