Ideal F1 schedule

14 fly away races will never wash with the teams - they'd whinge no end about travel costs and logistics...at least it'd stop them having time to test and update the cars...

1. USGP EAST: Watkins Glen with the armco moved back quite a bit, and new facilities. And new ownership, instead of ISC. That's even years. Odd years, it'll be at Virginia International Raceway.
2. PREMIO MAGNÍFICO DE MEXICO: Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez. 3. PRÊMIO GRANDE DE BRASIL: Interlagos in the old, full configuration even years, Brasilia and Rio trade off on odd years. 4. JAPANESE GRAND PRIX: Suzuka even years, Motegi odd years. 5. PACIFIC GRAND PRIX: Revised and extended Changwon Circuit in South Korea even years (photo here: http://www.f3korea.net/eng/photo/ima.../ground_21.jpg), Sepang odd years. 6. BELGIAN GRAND PRIX: Spa-Francorchamps. 7. GROßER PREIS VON DEUTSCHLAND: Revised and extended Lausitzring. 8. FRENCH GRAND PRIX: Rejuvenated Autodrome du Linas-Montlehery (massive 7-mile track near Paris). 9. EUROPEAN GRAND PRIX: Alternating between Jerez in Spain and Estoril, in Portugal. 10. GRAND PRIX DU MONTE CARLO: Monaco 11. GROßER PREIS VON ÖSTERREICH: Revised A1-Ring. 12. Italian Grand Prix: Monza 13. CZECH GRAND PRIX: Brno 14. EIFFEL GROßER PREIS: The FULL Nurburgring, with the GP Strecke leading out onto the Nordscliefe. Modifications consist of a repaving job to pave up to the Armco in some sections and eliminate the jumps, the barriers moved back where possible, the track widened a foot on each side, "soft walls" installed in some particularly dangerous sections, along with fencing in said sections, and the Karousel and Mini-Karousel re-profiled into conventional steeply banked corners. The old narrow banking is starting to come apart, and even 20 years ago wasn't useable by Group C cars. 15. FINNISH GRAND PRIX: No idea where to hold it, but after all the drivers they've put in F1, they deserve a Grand Prix. 16. BRITISH GRAND PRIX: Brands Hatch even years, Silverstone odd years. 17. CANADIAN GRAND PRIX: A rotating schedule of Montreal, Mosport, and Mont-Tremblant. 18. USGP WEST: Laguna Seca, possibly alternated with Willow Springs (with revised facilities and fresh pavement) or Long Beach. 19. ARCTIC GRAND PRIX: Would require brand new road courses based near Seattle and Vancouver. Seattle on even years, Vancouver odd. 20. AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX: Bathurst Mount Panorama. Jeez... I'd have put in Argentina if I'd had one more pick. |

Hey, it's a points-paying event! They can come or stay home, it's their choice!
Though I must say, it wouldn't hurt to add just a little bit of width to the track, likewise with the Nurburgring. But either way, it's such a spectacular track, how can anyone justify a street race when that circuit's there?! Last edited by Lee Janotta; 22 Oct 2002 at 00:00. |

Lord, you can just see the chicane Bernie would want wedged in the middle of Caltex Chase.
There's not a lot I'd add, to be honest, to Lee Janotta's list. I think that sums up what's missing from Formula 1 these days. Although on mature reflection, following on the great tradition of the San Marino GP held at Imola, I would like to nominate Donington Park as the venue for the inaugural Welsh Grand Prix. |

An ARCTIC Grand Prix near Vancouver??? Were you a geography major, Lee?! We're lucky if there's snow on the ground for more than a few days each year!... And having lived in Inuvik, I know ARCTIC!! I'd love to see a race anywhere in the vicinity. Our street course is pretty wide, F1 would like it here. |

Australia - Adelaide
Japan - Suzuka (not Motegi Lee, it's a pathetic track) Britain - Brands Hatch (Silverstone has been ruined) France - Clermont-Ferrand Belgium - Spa Italy - Monza USA - Road America Canada - Gilles Villeneuve Brazil - Jacarapagua Mexico - Hermanos Rodriguez Spain - Montjuich Park Germany - Nurburgring (no, not the new one!) Austria - Osterreichring (rebuild the bloody thing) Netherlands - Zandvoort Czech - Brno (it was DESIGNED for F1!!!) Monaco (just for the history) They are the 16 countries that deserve races at the moment, and these are the tracks which should be hosting races. If more than 16 rounds allowed, then add: Portugal - Estoril (before the rebuild) Argentina - Buenos Aires (that old long track) South Africa - Kyalami (again, preferably the old one) |

Heh... You got a better name for it? They held a Swiss GP in France, remember. And a Luxembourg GP in Germany. Fousto, yeah, I've heard the same thing about SIR, but... I'm not a fan of the track in the first place, I don't think it's a good design. I've got plans for a new track near Bremerton I'd rather see a Seattle race held at. http://tentenths.com/forum/attachmen...&postid=392400 Last edited by Lee Janotta; 22 Oct 2002 at 12:15. |

Well, BIKES can pass at Motegi, but I doubt F1 could. Although considering the stop-start nature of the circuit, anything can happen!

or maybe not. |

1. SOUTH AFRICAN GP - Kyalami
2. BRAZILIAN GP - Rio 3. MEXICAN GP - Hermanos Rodriguez 4. USA South GP - Laguna Seca 5. USA North GP - Watkins Glen 6. CANADIAN GP - Montreal 7. MONACO GP - Monte Carlo 8. FRENCH GP - Paul Ricard 9. BRITISH GP - Brands Hatch 10. CZECH GP - Brno 11. ITALIAN GP - Monza 12. GERMAN GP - Old Hockenheim 13. BELGIAN GP - Spa 14. ARABIAN GP - Bahrain 15. CHINESE GP - Shanghai 16. MALAYSIAN GP - Sepang 17. JAPANESE GP - Suzuka 18. AUSTRALIAN GP - Adelaide An attempt to balance politics - GP in every continent and scheduling to get fly-away races together - and using the best circuits viable. 18 races seems a nice number, 20 is too many, 16 too few. |

I'm more in agreement with Lee, as I like the rotation of races. Particularly because I think there are tracks that would really showcase F1 that are unused right now.
The basic problem is the level of facilities that Bernie requires. Mosport and Ste. Jovite would be excellent for the Canadian GP, but the luxury-conscious F1 crowd would balk at leaving Montreal (although the Mont-Tremblant ski village is handy for Ste. Jovite). Similarly, Watkins Glen has no luxury in the neighbourhood. VIR doesn't even have a neighbourhood! I'd imagine there would be loads of choppers buzzing from Toronto Island to Mosport if the race ever landed there. That said, rotation would be a boon for the attending fans, the racing would be terrific, and the drivers would have show their ability to adjust. Friday testing would become extremely important. I'd love it! |

The level of facilities required is the biggest problem. But since this premise is based on the idea that you're in charge of F1 instead of Max and Bernie, I say too bad to the overprivaledged elite classes if the catering isn't first-rate. It's an auto race, not a huge corporate social event. There shouldn't be walls between the blue-bloods arriving in helicopters, and people tailgaiting in the backs of rusty Ford and Chevy trucks.
Senna12, I think Portland's a nice little track, and it's very well run, being a government-owned operation which actually _makes_ money. But it's too short for F1 at about 2 miles, minus those retarded Festival Curves. |
