MG's To Be Made In The USA?
Report on BBC World this morning that the new Chinese owners plan to start manufacture in the USA. Is this a good thing? Is there a market for this?

I'll believe it when I see it! After such a long, lingering death, can the corpse be revived?

They are also talking about firing up the MG TF production line at Longbridge again (apparently it's still intact).

I believe their plan is to have factories in the USA, UK and China. The current MG TF's 4cyl engine isn't US emissions legal, so perhaps there is a plan to drop the KV6 into the back of the new cars.
I assume there is also a plan to badge up future Chinese built saloons as MGs for sale in the USA (perhaps starting with something based on the old Rover 75 models). If Nanjing keep/start a UK based design/engineering department and just used China and the US as low cost manufacturing centres then there is a future for the brand. |
