Does Marino Franchitti know the P2 class is meant for privateers?

I don't know why he would, because no one else in the ALMS seems to. Somebody's going to have to show me that as a rule, rather than just a bunch of French "wishing it were so."

While they're at it, they can come up with a set of rules that define what is, and what is not, a privateer. There's the problem, isn't it? Having watched AJR and Porsche successfully argue for years that they weren't a "factory team," it's not clear to me what such a thing looks like.

How about Fernandez? Are they a factory team? They've got an off-the-shelf chassis, a viable non-automotive sponsor. Sure, Acura is working on its motor, but they can upgrade that without making their teams "factory teams," can't they? Is Fernandez a privateer and Highcroft a factory team?

Let me see, Pescarolo and Creation have to be factory teams, don't they? What about Zytek? Factory team. They're nominally in P1 now, are they barred from P2?

Make rules to put the hardware into reasonably competitive classes, as has been the case for decades. The rest is social engineering.

The ACO says that P1 is reserved for more performance than P2, but the weight doesn't help.

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Head of Audi Motorsport says P2 grids threatened by factory entries

Interesting as just one P2 privateer, VDS, has raced in ALMS this year.

As a side note, I wonder what the ACO's Daniel Poissenot was saying in the bottom picture in the link

Exactly, privateers.

How many races have Dyson won.

The RS Spyder in privateer hands is a realistic target for P2's such as the Zytek and even low budget P1's like Intersport and Cytosport.

Penske are on a different level.

IMO '08 should really be their last year in P2.

I think 2007 is year which demonstrates the ACOs need to define What a "Works / Factory team" and what an "Indpendent team" is?

How much technical assistance can a Manufacture give or provide at no cost to an independent team, and that team remain indpendent?
