Was Weber watching the same race as everyone else? Just 'cos they do it in GP2 (which i happen to also think has some very dubious driving standards) don't mean they should in A1. He seems to think that just cos the teams lost a few places and didnt retire, thats OK. Duh, this isn't WTCC / BTCC / DTM mate, its single seater non-contact motorsport. Had he only done it once he might have got away with it, but 3 times at the same corner just says this guy needs to calm down and get a grip. The fact he didnt damage his wing in each incident amazes me... Stewards could have handled that much better tho, retro penalties and all that are rubbish ways of dealing with it but i guess they thought the compound effect of the 3 incidents, proving the driver wasn't learning from his mistakes, warrented it. I see from Ammermuller's comments he still hasn't learned either... |

Jones said he isn't in it to run around at the back. Funny he has only ever picked two drivers who have been capable of being near the front, and they are both more gainfully employed. |

Martin was 4th fastest over all in Bruno and 3rd fastest in Sepang. Then Dyke sticks it up the back in 12-16th type grids. His times are faster but the sessions are faster as the track rubbers in. If you look at the times from Sepang , Martin was 8 tenths off Jarvis (and getting quicker) If they left Martin in the car and he stayed 8 tenths off in the next session (you could argue he'd get quicker) then Australia would have been 3rd or 4th place instead of 14th. Wonder if you can let the Rookie qualify the car |

From memory there is no reason why you can't have one driver qualify the car and another race, or have different race drivers for each race (been done plenty of times before). Any of this is fine if you nominate both drivers on the Friday. Even if Martin doesn't have the experience or fitness to do the feature race it seems they'd be better off having him qualify and do the sprint race. Or perhaps he could do the whole weekend.

John Martin has just done a full season of British F3 with Alan Docking Racing, who run the Team Australia car in A1GP. BF3 involves two 30-minute races, so I don't see any reason why he shouldn't be fit enough and sharp enough.
He's switching to Raikkonen Robertson Racing for F3 next year, but that shouldn't have anything to do with it. |

Dunno Kiwi, but he's down as 15th in the standings from last year, ahead of his teammate but not sure what that tells you really - about the team or the drivers.
But how did Australia manage (was it?) a 4th fastest time in the rookie sessions, and then drop that standing like a rock overnight? I can't imagine that's all driver or even mostly driver, there must have been something else going on with the car or the setup. It'll be interesting to see who's nominated next race. |

They did the same in Bruno
Martin went 4th in "rookie" practice and then Dyke went 14th or something. John Martin struggled with a car that wasn't competitive in British F3. When it rained he was mega. One wet race went from 12th to 4th (ran out of laps) One wet qualifying put it on 3rd. The only way to compare dry times is to compare to the other Honda engined cars and he was consistantly fastest or 2nd fastest of the Honda powered cars in his rookie season. He's sign with RR for next year so we'll get to see if he's any good ...... |

What's Marcus Marshall up to these days? He's got a better average points score in A1 than anyone else who has driven for AUS (excluding Briscoe and Power who are otherwise engaged)...

Not to much should be read into the Rookies sessions as most teams use them to do prep. work for races. ie bed in disc's, and pads ect.. Very few laps are done at speed and with one set only of used tyres from previous race. Ian has paid for the season and will stay there and probably John M or Daniel R will pay to drive next season. Its the best they can hope for as little commercial backing is available to the team which means it relys on drivers money. Ian does a good job considering he has no European experience and improves with every race. He should see the season out & be getting better results. Anyone who thinks any of these drivers is giong to just jump in and be winning races is kidding themselves. If you want to be contructive find them the funds to select the best driver next season regardless of wealth, otherwise stop knocking the results.

From the A1 website "Robert Wickens was the surprise winner of A1GP.com’s Driver of the Day award for Sepang, Malaysia."
Speed are showing the race on Thursday and Friday. I'll have to watch to see if he deserved it. |

Neel Jani explains here why he believe Switzerland can be a real threat for the title, which, as he says, wouldn't be bad going for the second smallest nation of all those in A1GP.
He also mentions the team's new engineer. He is James Robinson, who last year set GBR on the winning path. I'm quite surprised they let him go, but then we never know all that goes on behind the scenes. Perhaps Switzerland offered more money and a tax-free residence! |

I've herd Daniel is out , as he's signed with RedBull for another series. I also get the impression that John isn't going to waste any more money on rookie sessions either. So Australia will need to find a "Rookie" for this year and someone who can drive and afford it next year. Not looking good for team Oz any time soon |

Its never a good situation to be in, relying on drivers money. To be honest they have been lucky to have had some good (experienced) drivers early on, and even now Dyke does a very good job considering his experience relative to most of the grid. I am sure there are other drivers who will turn up with the money next year,(especially with Ferrari support). Equally the team would like to have a legitimate sponsor group so they could develop there own team of drivers independant of a drivers finacial situation. This could be said for any teams in A1GP which rely on driver money.

Apparently John Martin is going to do China , be interesting to see if he does any more rounds after that.
Hope he does Australia, he was always stunning at Eastern Creek. |
