Ricciardo grabbed pole for 1 race and won the race. This makes him only 2 points behind Aleshin! He could take the championship lead today!

Esteban had this one in his pocket. Pole, race win and fastest lap. Not bad after having to miss the last round.

Zampieri disqualified after being underweight - that puts Aleshin 4th, and now he leads with 111 points, over 101 of Ricciardo and 85 of Guerrieri.

felt quite sorry for ricciardo in race 2 - there was a sudden rash of pitlane speeding fines and penalties given out this weekend so what was going on there i don't know. perhaps it was being measured differently?

yeah it was very dodgy. he also expressed how he was fairly sure he didn't speed too, as he even took it "easy" to make sure.

wouldn't call it dodgy as such but it's very unfortunate that people have been losing track position to the penalties. could possibly be a pointer towards where it's possible to take liberties too, or it could just be that hockenheim is a particularly... enthusiastic circuit for enforcing rules such as using the tarmac runoff as circuit space as well.

I've noticed that this season Hockenheim has been very prone to handing out penalties right, left and centre.

So effectively what Ricciardo gave himself in terms of closing the points gap on Saturday was swiftly taken away again on Sunday!! Marvellous.
I would imagine he'll be very strong at Silverstone though. |

the thing that makes me suspicious in general is that there has been a sudden rash of pitlane speeding penalties that really haven't happened at other venues - i assume they use a different system to police it at hockenheim. teams and drivers should obey the rules at all times, especially those imposed for the safety of the guys in the pits obviously. also perhaps worth mentioning is that there were teams who weren't affected at all by these penalties and teams who had both drivers suffer multiple times. that indicates to me that there's something funny going on somewhere. |

I have noticed that top teams do not use pit limiter and rely on speed indication in car as limiters set lower. These teams seem to be getting multiple speed penalties. Obviously in a race situation where you hope to jump a competitor you will try to make the margin very small. As Ricciardo has said it was a lot highter than the speed limit, it is probably down to killing speed to late, or accelerating to early. They were desperate to jump Aleshin(even changing front tyres as opposed to longer stop but a better performance choice rears). As Ricciardo's pit was close to exit it is possible he did not think he would need to limit speed befor exit?

the reports mention a timing loop - is the speed limit monitored the same way at other events?
for reference, the people penalised were leo (pons), aleshin (carlin), rosenzweig (carlin)(twice), and ricciardo (tech1, twice). riccardo mentions in autosport's race 2 report that he was doing 56kph according to the in-car readout and was being careful after being penalised in the morning. |
