Mercedes Podium at Monza?
Did anyone catch Jenson after the race talking to Webber and Vettel about the Mercedes car? He said "their straight line speed is just ridiculous"
Is it realistic to think they could be a wild card in Monza to grab a pole or podium? kind of reminds me of the BMW Williams who would be really competitive at low downforce tracks |

The force India of 2009 managed 2nd at Spa followed by 2nd at Monza. Perhaps there could be a silver arrows there or there abouts!

This could be cool. Notthat I would love an italian team on the top step of the podium but a couple of mercedes would be very neat-o. Nico shows pace and schumi drove like a demon at spa. Good race that.

They may get a good grid position and be difficult to pass but the Merc's don't like corners as they tend to eat their tyres too fast, so they may have trouble at the Lesmo's and Parabolica over a stint

I just can't see them beating Red Bull's 2 drivers, McLaren's 2 drivers (aslong as Lewis doesn't bin it) and Fernando. 3 of the mentioned 5 drivers will make up the podium imo.

Two seperate DRS zones and activation points for Monza.
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/94135 That's got to give some help to someone with a car that goes well in a straight line. |

You make it seem like he's a crasher or something. That's Sato, not Lewis. He just pushed the envelope last year. Lacked patience. I hope Nico or Shummy can get up there at least 3rd. Top speed is crucial this round. They have it.

I would have been inclined to agree with the original question because the cars are undoubtedly fast in a straight line, but during the FOTA press conference today Rosberg admitted that they have a problem preventing the rear tyres from losing their efficiency.
I think McLaren will be strong and if Hamilton can remember that it's easier to lose the race in the first lap and a half than it is to win it, then it could be his day. |

I still see McLaren, Ferrari and Red Bull as being faster than the Mercs but with two DRS zones they will stand a good chance, especially if Rosberg gets another good start and Schumi can qualify somewhere in the top ten |

That quote from Rosberg was made this afternoon. The tyres don't just suffer around the corners; the straights give them a pounding as well, which is why Pirelli are being so strict about camber angles at Monza.

I think 5th place at least is there goal. I wouldn't doubt them getting a podium. Shumacher might steal one. Then again, maybe Nico will shine? I like the Mercedes team, I surely hope for a good result for them, just after a McLaren 1-2, maybe a Ferrari up there, then Mercedes can push Red Bull. Doubtful but one can hope.

Not much sign of Mercedes 'speed' in FP1.

I wonder if Mercedes could find a podium at Monza or... Singapore, considering Rosberg's performance there...

of course it is hopeful. Schu can get around there and he used practice to see the limits, Alonso and vettel know how to do it as well.
the ferrari doesn't seem to have the ooomph that they need to topple RedBull this weekend, Merc seems to have the outright speed, but maybe not the race pace. this should be one to watch I love Monza. |
