It's interesting because some years ago I've read that Alfa Romeo were planing to enter Grand-Am with C8-style DP.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that Nascar might be moving to a new car in 2013?

NASCAR switching to DTM cars? The real NASCAR fans wouldn't survive that.
But serious. I am sure this has nothing to do with DTM. |

Nascar manufacturers would prefer cars that look like real cars. Of course, if they used proper bodies a la DTM and V8 Supercars, it would be insanely tough to make performance match when driving at 300km/h. That's why the new Nationwide cars still have identical rears, which Chevrolet disliked for their Camaro.

I've not really believed that a US DTM series was possible due to the large amount of money it would take to buy the cars and run them. Especially since money in US motorsports is particularly tight, but I may have came up with a possible solution.
First, the costs of running the series are likely going to be greatly reduced by piggybacking on existing NASCAR/GA rounds so that helps from a logistical point of view. Second, with the addition of BMW to DTM in 2012, Audi and Merc will have fewer cars in the championship, so potentially there could be more manufacturer assistance available. Third, following the logic of #2 above the amount of assistance needed from each manufacturer would further decrease if more manufacturers came on board. This could come about from GM sponsoring a Cadillac DTM, and/or a tie-in with SuperGT. For instance, if each manufacturer only had to help two 2-car teams the costs would be much cheaper. I still have my doubts of this championship getting off the ground, but hey anything is possible. |

I haven't heard a peep for a while.
I think the big idea was you'd have a single set of rules from Super GT to DTM to whatever the new American series would be called. Unless I missed something, that doesn't look like it's happening. |

After my above post, I found this in the inbox:
DTM America race series takes another step closer to reality So it sounds like the manufacturers were just planning on bank rolling the series anyways regardless of the number of them. (the details of the article are the same as what Acid09 posted above) |

If chrysler chose to join the DTM USA championship then they might be inclined to run a Lancia in the 'European' DTM because I'm pretty sure Chrysler own Lancia. It would be an incredibly costly operation and which car would they use?

It's actually the other way around, the Fiat corporation (owner of Alfa Romeo, Fiat and Lancia amongst others) owns Chrysler. So they could enter a Chrysler in the US and use it as an Alfa Romeo in Europe.

Oh so that's the connection! Thanks for the correction. Alfa Romeo back in the DTM would be brilliant!

If I had to pick a fourth brand, I'd go for Cadillac. But they are investing a lot in SCCA World Challenge now.
