Seeeking detail pics of Gp2 Capri RS2600 and RS3100.
Any pics or links would help, building a Gp2 car and need as much info on the rear suspension as I can find. Lots available on the Escorts, can't find much on the Capris (although there seems to be quite a bit carried over). Any help appreciated!

Sounds like we have something in common! Made contact with one of the original Capri racers [actually bought an Atlas Axle from him,all the right bits in it] Just waiting for a compilation of photos on the very subject

Thanks Terence.
I run the Barbados Historic Rally Carnival. David Rayner competed last year in a Tiger but he owns an RS2600 Safari car and has sent me several homologation forms. E-mail me at greg at huzier dot com and I'll send them to you. The Safari scrutineer has also sent me some period pics they used for eligibility I can send you. Gordon Spice is also doing some research for me (he only drove GpA cars) so I should have more soon. My biggest dilemma at this point is deciding between an RS2600 and an RS3100; I'm leaning toward the latter. I'll be at Goodwood on Sunday, hopefully there will be Capris there.. |

PS Do you know the source of your axle exactly? I'd like to measure/copy a Broadspeed axle if I could find one.

Gentlemen,
The April 2010 issue of German magazine 'Powerslide' (issue #05) may be of interest to you as it has an 11-page in-depth feature on the 3100RS Capri in their 'Cars in Detail' series. The feature includes cutaway artworks, detail drawings & photographs etc. You can probably get a back issue via their website: www.powerslide-mag.de (hope that doesn't break any rules!). |

Whilst [trying] to remove the much too short studs from my front hubs, trying as in there was not enough room between the two mounting faces,I suddenly realised why there are four short bolts around the centre of the hub,it is in fact two sections! Very nicely machined but seems an awful lot of work just to get the later type vented disc's on! Anyone seen this before please.
Greg, did you get my details? Last edited by terence; 15 Jul 2012 at 07:42. |

Many thanks Carl, like I said it was more out of curiosity than anything else,at least I was told the truth when I bought the car. It currently has the [same] discs as you have, but I'm going up in size with them. What are your calipers,I see they are alloy but are they ATE or Dunlop please.

It may be relevant to point out that the Group 2 Capri ran centre locks. This was the case from the early 2300 to the post 1976 MkII/III.
My Group 1 Capri MkIII runs AP calipers. The standard front brake set up for the Group 1 cars was the Granada vented disc and caliper. The Group 2 cars ran 15" wheels and thus bigger brakes and calipers. I recommend anyone who is interested to get hold of the Homologation Certificate. All the information being discussed is in there in FIA stamped pictures. |

Thanks again Carl, looks nicely sorted. I have some 15 inch wheels on order so obviously the wheels reflect the size of the brakes.Getting all of the 'bit's' together, slowly!.At least I have now finished the shell prepping, lightening ans stiffening, have a superb roll cage being made just 10 minutes away from our England house, convenient for when we get back.

Hi All,
I have just finished these off and shipped to a customer in Europe. Photos of Gp2 RS 2600 (72 Works Spec) as promised. These were also used on Gp2 and Gp5 Zakspeed Escort and Gp5 Zakspeed Capri. The 73 and 74 Works capris ran different hub Hub/Upright Assemblies in both those years. So 3 years 3 different Alloy Hub/Upright Assy. At least on the Works cars. In NZ we are lucky enough to have an Original 72, 73 and 74 Works Gp2 Capris and a Zakspeed Gp5 Escort. Will post photos of the 73 spec items soon. Many parts have had to be remanufactured. Cheers. Hi Terence,
The Original items on all the cars here were Magnesium and old not a good combo!! We race the cars here so needed to reproduce these parts and many others. I have a pair of Alloy units on my Zakspeed but have just finished off a pair of Mag units and will fit them for the upcoming season. Photo of Leg in Escort, this is the same as the 72 Capri. Cheers. |

The Gp.2 Capri ran 4 stud wheels up to 1973 (RS2600) in 13" and 15", then in 1974 (RS3100) they switched to centrelock. I am also building a Gp.2 Capri clone, and manufacturing the BBS wheel centres at the moment which are NLA. Brakes were ATE on the original factory cars, but AP calipers were also homologated.
As Peter Mallett said, get hold of the relevant homologation docs, it is all in there in (badly photocopied) black and blue |

Brain teaser for you.
The top pic is the '74 Group 2 Capri (note cooling pipes for radiators in wheel arches). The bottom pic is a standard Capri. Note the inner wheel arches on the racer have been replaced, probably with something from the Ford parts bin in 1973. My 1967/8 Allan mann escort built by Gomm used Transit inner wheel arches so I know this was relatively common practice. Can anyone identify the inner arches in the pic? |
