IsnĀ“t this exactly what the ACO wants? P1 as strictly factory run cars, and P2 as privateers in strictly purpose built customer cars?

The 2014 rules (provisional) that ACIO published included separate specifications for customer cars. Considering that the manufacturers help write the rules, I have to figure they planned to sell some, else it wouldnāt be there.
Oak has already said the will build a P1 hopefully with an HPD power plant. I believe Wirth mentioned he wanted to do customer cars as well. My understanding is that ACO wants WEC in general to cater to and be supported by factory teams, but also wants some privateers, both the get more cash and to buffer the pain when one or more big manufacturers pull out. Where that plan is now I donāt know. They wonāt be selling any cars in North America, thatās sure. |

Honda announced a Zytek Partnershiphttp://www.zytekautomotive.co.uk/Lin...bid=39&mid=474 recently. The system beiing used first in the SuperGT car but if Zytek is a former LMP company then maybe Honda is planning a hybrid prototype and found a partner to help make the system for 2014?

Its not really clear. Im just guessing here as to what could come of the partnership but Honda seems to be interested in Sportscar racing. They have been very Bipolar first being all for it with the ALMs program and Acura's P2/P1 then stepping back but really sticking around and allowing Wirth Research to build this current HPD P1 car.
I think they have interest. In addition they would get to compete with Toyota on the grand scale. So it's possible *speculation* for 2014. I think the Japanese are interested in top level racing because Toyota and Honda used to race in Formula one. Proto's can be a cheaper alternative. |

The Honda to P1 rumor has been around a little while now. No idea how true it is but it is not implausible. Nick Wirth has had a 2014-spec coupe design going for a while, I've heard.
Not sure Zytek is planning to build a 2014-spec P1. Oak plans to and hopes to use Honda power, so .... ???? |

Afaik the regs are not final, no. But I seem to recall Wirth mentioning that he wanted to do a or was doing a 2014 car in an interview. I might be confusing it with the coupe he has had drawn but couldn't get built the last couple years.

Well one thing is for certain. If Honda and Zytek do evelop a hybrid system for LMPS then Honda would have to run in LMP1 as a factory teams because i don't think privateers can have the hybrid systems.

While I think thats a good move from an expense point of view , it also means that a privateer win is beyond most peoples reach , which also isnt good , at all . Whats the point of racing if a chance of a win isnt there ?

I don't think that's true is it? Hybrids for P1 manufacturers yes, but not confined to manufacturers.

It also says that the performance for the private teams could be adjusted to keep them secure. Also, the efficiency formula isn't even finalized, so it could be stricter or leaner. We'll just have to see.

Liking the sound of this.
Jota looking to expand to a two-car team next year in P2: http://auto-racing.speedtv.com/artic...sion-for-2013/ They have been a quality addition to the prototype field this year and it's nice to see them rebound from what was a really sh**ty situation with the Aston customer car. Dolan has also been top notch behind the wheel. Maybe they will try and do something similar to what Greaves did this season across the WEC/ELMS. |

Ask Rebellion or OAK or Pescarolo or any other privateer and they will give you the same answer, they wanna be in the top class.

I understand wanting to be in the top class ..... but Its hard to attract sponsors if you admit to them first , you will only be an also ran .
Rebellion sponsor themselves , no worries there . Pescarolo received many sponsors basically from loyalty , but that money has dried up as we have seen . Oak have no money issues either . What about the rest of'em ? |
