Alms & Cart
Now that both ALMS and CART have raced at Road America in the last few weeks can anyone tell me how the lap times compare?

Junqueira Toyota/Lola/Bridgestone 1:43.792 140.404mph 225.952kph The overall fastest lap is: Fastest Lap 19/8/2000 Dario Franchitti 1:39.866 145.924mph I don't think they have altered the course (the length is the same) from www.alms.com Qualifying Kristensen Audi R8 Audi Sport North America P900 1:52.166 128.381mph Race best lap: Frank Biela Lap #108 1:53.403 126.981 mph So the sportscars are about 10s slower. Not bad. Hope that helps and bookmark those links. I really like the CART website. All the info is on the ALMS site, but I tend to not get on with it very well (probably just me). |

Actually I'm not sure the CART and ALMS courses are the same? The lap times and the average speeds aren't equivalent for the two series.
Hmmm. Does anyone know? It seems the CART course was 77m longer (an added chicane?) |

Hello, Adam.
I was in both of these races in Elkhart Lake. The ALMS and CART "courses" are absolutely the same, centimeter by centimeter. It is relatively common to find discrepancies on the measurement of the lenght of a circuit, as different people use different techniques to calculate it. Some measure the lenght by the center line of the track, others use the perimeter (measured at one edge of the track). And there are those that use a precision odometer and run a car on the track, following an "ideal" racing line, and the call this measurement the "racing lenght" of the track. Are you sure is it not a typo mistake by your source? But, again, the CART and the ALMS races in Elkhart Lake (July 7th and August 18th) were run in the very same track. |

Adam, are you sure that www.alms.com was what you meant to type. There isn't much racing info there - I find that www.imsaracing.net is much more direct.
