Ipswich Motorsport Precinct redevelopment
So Damien White has been appointed by Ipswich City Council as General Manager of the motorsport precinct:http://www.speedcafe.com/2016/07/01/...lopment-plans/
Interesting times ahead by the sound of it but dependant on funding as you'd expect. Wonder when we'll start to see plans or outcomes from this? Next Federal election is probably a way off and State election three or so years from now (unless one more govt member leaves - very small majority). Elections often are the driver for funding promises so Mr White may have his work cut out to achieve funding in the short term. Paul Pisasale has shown himself to be someone who can get stuff happening though so anything could happen..... |

A few hundred tonnes of dirt might be a good start. The most boring circuit in Australia as it is. Good luck to him.

I really hope this gets some legs and we get a permanent, proper race circuit up here, in Sth East QLD. How many times have we heard all talk and no action resulting about a new circuit, anywhere around the country? The difference with this, is that Mayor Paul Pisasale is well and truly behind it. He really is a rare breed of politician that has a lot of respect in Ipswich, and if it does go ahead, they must actually do it right, this time around. The 6 klm noise buffer zone they have up there gives them plenty of room to create something special, as long as they don't try and do it on the cheap and end up with another version of the most boring track in Australia.

Mr Quinn also had plans to extend the circuit out from turn two before it heads down the straight , but he and Mr Tetley haven,t been able to agree on a price. It has been said that two offers had already been put to QR. Ipswich Council has taken back all leases bar one. So if Paul wants his dream, he may have to buy out QR's lease, rumored to be $21 mill If it does get up, it will be better for South east Qld motosport. |

Fomoco, Ipswich Council have definitely not taken back all leases bar one. The dragstrip & kart track have long term leases & motorcycling Qld also has a long term lease for the facility they are building there to replace Tivoli.

fair enough, wasn't aware of them, but I do no the council wants full control, and the clubs lease the facility.

Channel Nine Brisbane News reports a ten year deal for Supercars at Qld Raceway is only days away from being inked in.
No doubt we will get an announcement in the lead up to the Gold Coast Canyon Fest. |

Interesting - $150K for a masterplan that is to replace the previous (2013 I think) masterplan done for $120K by Apex - the same UK company that did the plan for SMP.
Wonder who'll do this masterplan? |

Gotta love a good master plan. My previous employment had about 4 in 10 years. Didn't stick to them and haven't managed to stick to the latest one they only did last year.

Sounds like they are still working out what they want to do. |

Didn't last long in SA and now Qld. Is it only ''creative differences'' or is there more to the story?

Just watching a story being broadcast on ABCnews24 re the old Ebenezer mine degradation since its closure some years ago, and how the taxpayer (as usual) will be picking up the tab (many millions of $) to clean the mess up. Noticed that Qld Raceway is literally over the back fence of the minesite. It would be nice to think that two birds could be killed with one stone here and the same taxpayer funding may be able to turn this environmental disaster into something that would bring money into the local economy, with some major expansion at QR. Its gone awfully quiet after the initial QR expansion discussion came up and Damien White moving on.

ahhh but !
Sadly the definition of "rehabilitated mine" does not provide a stable foundation to build anything more than a carport. We are talking tens of metres depth of uncompacted mine spoil, of varying consistency from mud to gravel & all soil types in between.
About all you can use a "rehabilitated mine" for is grazing livestock. On the other hand, the deep & empty holes in the ground can be a good source of revenue to bury other peoples waste & in some cases collect the methane for power generation. But sooner or later the holes will fill & building anything stable on top is difficult and expensive. But there is at least one possible gain from Ebenezer Mine - the rail line to the coal loading area could be extended to Champions Way to provide public transport to the Willowbank Motorsport Precinct. There is a route available through the mine site that avoids the spoil dumps and holes in the ground. This idea is likely way too visionary to ever succeed, but you never know ?. |

Are you talking about rehabilitation of underground mines, or open cut as I understand Ebenezer was?
It's probably a totally futile discussion, as I can't see any future development of QR going ahead anyway, which is a damn shame. |

The precinct plan includes an easement for a rail line along the southern edge of the Motorsport precinct. State govt has bought the land & set it aside for rail along that corridor. |

I am referring to open cut rehabilitation.
That's good to hear about the easement, but the location on the southern boundary is not ideal and more expensive than a northern option. |

The Mayor resigns: Paul steps down due to ill health
As a key personal driver of the motorsport redevelopment, this could make a big change. |

Yeah, that came outa nowhere! Bit of a shame...... but Pisasale never seemed to deliver anything more than his backing of any further development. I'll stand corrected on this, but there never appeared to be anything kicked into the tin to get track improvements or upgrades done.....only his blessing and support.
With today's news of the NSW Govt ready to commit to the proposed new Bathurst circuit, it would be nice if the Queensland Govt could do something similar up at QR. But we won't hold our breaths, will we! |
