I wonder how Grosjean feels a bit of a plonker now. After criticising Hamilton in quali, during the race he just turns in on Ericsson ruining his own race. People in glass houses

I reckon the durability of the chosen Pirelli compounds was quite appropriate this particular race. Vettel pitted quite early and probably both Ferrari's didn't have the best set up to make the tyres last. Silverstone is a demanding track in that regard, hence teams need to adjust.

Personally, as said, I think it's still probable that it is related to stint length and set up (together with the design of the tire of course). We'll have to await to conclusions of the investigation to be sure. |

Well once again the British GP brings in huge crowds and again justifies why it must be kept on the calendar

kimi's looked a bit more of a classic failure, but vettel's looked very strange. it'd be fascinating to see photos of it, but i can't imagine that exists outside of pirelli...

Vettel locked his left front a couple of times when fighting with Bottas. Then... bang! Then cheers! Then karma!!

I counted 2 left front lockups for Vettel during his battle with Bottas late in the race, and think a couple more after that when he was under brakes and the tyre kept finding the flat spot. I'd say it was the cause of the blow up.
Raikkonen's tyre.. well it simply "broke". Video of the big lock up. https://youtu.be/t0WHNqwDjXc?t=4m |

Cause of Vettel's tyre failure...
https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/p...rstone-933318/ Curious as to why it was only the Ferrari cars to have this issue. Are they running different spec tyres to the other cars just like the good old days with Bridgestone? |

The only thing I can think of is that they ran a setup that strained the tyres to breaking point.

Of course, it could be down to set-up, but not different tyres.

because all cars, despite being designed by different teams, end up with a very similar setup, just like spec cars, right?
i'm inclined to say it's an unfortunate coincidence that both kimi and vettel had failures so close together, but there could well be something in the setup that makes the tyre particularly vulnerable to kerbs or something (much like last time). |

Looks like Pirelli may have just got the wear rates wrong, they admitted that Ferrari was within the parameters that had been specified for the tyres. |

Pirelli have released a statement regarding the puncture on Raikkonen's tyre, and concluded that it was initially damaged by a contact with an external body, whatever that means.
They also conducted tyres from other teams that had completed similar mileage, and were unable to find any similar damage. And investigations into Vettel's puncture continue. |
