The season opens with Bathurst, Clipsal and the AGP and then throws in Townsville in the middle of the season. With that brutal yet high profile opening to the season - I dont think putting the cars at risk in the middle part of the season is a good decision for series. |

2018 Honda NSX GT3 racer readying for global assault
wonder if we will get to see one of these next year. At around $700K it might be a tad expensive for most competitors |

Bringing new manufacturers to the series is generally Tony Quinn's move - as shown by McLaren and BMW.
Wouldnt be surprised to see him do the same here. However the Honda being mid engined might be a deterent due to TQs dislike for these following the McLaren. |

GT4 included in 2018 Australian GT Championship
Is this the beginning of a big change for our series as a result of cost of new GT3s I note there will be 21 cars in the trophy series this weekend (including 5 MARC's, although no Gt4s) |

Strong grid for the Trophy series. Hopefully the SMP endurance round sees a bounce back to the fields of 2016. Hobson Motorsport and Miedecke/Stone Motosport should be starters which will be additions to Round 1.

Any entry list released yet for the SMP enduro?
Hopefully an improvement on the 19 cars that started at Phillip Island. |

Notable missing faces from Round 2 are the Ash Samadi #3 Audiand the Wood/ Major #48 Lamborghini. Also missing are the Hobson Nissan GTR and the Miedecke Aston Martin which were earmarked for AGT Endurance Series.

Pathetic entry.
What are the reasons for this size field? |

Can't understand how such a large country can only muster 17 cars for a race that proved to be fantastic last year...

Large country, but low population... Only 25 milion People living there, still less than 30 if you count AUS and NZ as one market, which is smaller than any of the big European countries like Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Britain or even Poland.

Last years winners the Miedeckes and their Aston planned to appear but have fallen off the entry list. Hobson still dealing with the fallout from one of their cars being destroyed at Bathurst 12hr so no Nissan from them. They're a tiny privateer team so that's really disrupted their year. The second SRM BMW is in NZ and is destined to stay there. No Objective McLaren so I'm guessing the car owner is busy with work again. That's four cars I would've expected to be there. Shame we couldn't see some more of the fleet of Reiter Lambos that appeared at Clipsal this weekend. Scudd and Dave Russell are the sole R-EX there and hoping they have a great weekend. There's a lot more cars in garages around the country but for numerous reasons (lack of funding, time and interest, unhappiness with the series) they're just not there. Was expecting mid 20s at best so 17 is disappointing but if you look past the number there's a good field there with numerous lineups capable of winning. |

That's been part of GT racing for a long time - fairly large fluctuations in numbers. Not just here but overseas. As long as the quality is good, quantity hopefully won't be an issue.

They should really open up the field to GT4 cars if the GT3 field is gonna be that small, there's a few of them here already. I know the rules have been changed for next year but if we see dwindling fields for the rest of the year why not let in the GT4 cars already. TCR has no place in the top tier of the championship, they should be kept in Trophy with the Marc cars etc. |

Im agreeing with you, however are there any GT4 cars that would want to race, certainly they have not been turning up for the trophy series either. The recent trophy series event had more cars than this event (and also all events sinces the GP (both championship and enduro)) The Aust Gt site is significantly lacking in any updates for this event |

I think this is a result of accident damage that is lingering with some cars (Objective McLaren at WA) and the competitor politics that effected the late calendar change. It does seem that nothing will make some of the competitors happy. |
