Mike he's right to keep it. But just in case they are now worth 23K average and increasing… I'm just back from looking a MKII for our club, only wheel arches are rusted and underneath vey sound.

Hmm,now I wonder where that Capri was Mike😁
Going back to the drowned Escort.Seems strange that all "bidders" have only bid once? Other caravan dwellers maybe. |

1972 would be Apollo Green, I believe.
However, no where as nice as an Escort GT in metallic Jade which was my machine of choice from 1969 to 72. |

Just south west of here. The new keeper appears in a pic on P145 of latest (Oct) Octane.

Anorak fact- the 1300E was believe it or not assembled in the AVO facility, alongside the RS and Mexico versions. Nice to see that mentioned in the article.... (And of course the Capri RS3100 was also built there ) |

Wasn't it also used on the Granada Ghia? We had a similar colour at Lotus, called Roman Purple, but I can't remember where that originated from. |

Whilst we are on old Ford's, there's a pair of nice-looking Mk1 Cortina's on offer on Catawiki this week. One, a maroon GT, is currently standing at 6,000 euros.
The downside is they are in Finland. |

I dodged a bullet when looking for my first car...the car lot up the road had a rotten as a pear Mk1 3000 GXL? in that seductive green with a black vinyl roof, goodness knows what that was covering up. I had the foresight to check out the insurance for a 17 year old (me, not the car) before parting with my pocket money. I ended up with an Imp which cost the same to insure as it did to buy - £50

Talking of Ford paint colours, do you old boys remember the era when they used that stuff that used to peel off ! I think it was the late 60s early 70s on Escorts/Tina's etc.
I was told it was water based ? I remember "blue mink" was one of them. |

It was about those times that those that claim to have brilliant ideas also came up with water based printing inks. Unfortunately, they never gave any consideration to leaching when the ink would be subjected to rain.
Classic example was M & S who specified that only water based ink should be used on all their packaging, including the paper bags that they used then. First time that a customer took a new item out of their Oxford Street store in the pouring rain, she got M & S Green ink all over her very expensive mink coat -not a happy bunny. Result, M & S had to buy said customer a new mink coat, and they rejected the whole bag supplier's contract costing the supplier a fortune because they hadn't warned M & S about the possibility that the ink may not be fast in rain. |

Yes, there was a silver (Silver Birch?) which I always think of when I hear the Visage Song Fade to Grey...

I've just remembered the other silvery metallic colour from that era. Didn't a 1600E look stunning in Light Orchid? (This silvery/pink colour also didn't appear to suffer in the same was as Blue Mink and Silver Birch, or were these cars just simply more pampered?)

There was a silver 1100 version at work with the same problem. A couple of 3000Es at one time too. Yellow for them. Looked great at the time. |

Going to the other end of the extreme, the Aston Martin DBR1/1 was knocked-down for $22.6 million at RM Sotheby's last night, a world record price paid for a British car.
Also, $616,000 (about twice estimate) was paid for DBR9/9, a car that ended its racing career as a pile of junk. Maybe that Escort isn't such a bad deal after all... |

John you're right this market is sometimes strange. One of our chief scrutineer is a fan of american stuff and always wondered why a GTO makes so much money while a Cobra Daytona can't reach the same level.

I made a comment on the Revival thread about the 'Gentleman Jack' Galaxie (1963 BSCC winner) coming up for auction there, and that my belief was that it should be kept in its time warp condition. Well, Octane have a several page write up on the car, obviously a promo for the auction, but say exactly the same. Mr Balme has gone up in my estimation..... I know Jack wouldn't entertain the idea of it ever being raced again, and the feature touches on the fact that Lord March had a replica (in appearance) of the car built for the St Mary's Trophy several years ago for that reason...... |

I think the ford silver being mentioned was in fact Silver Fox.Remember the name well as a friend used to do the spray work on the cars that suffered the problem.Apparently the primer was too hard and colour would not adhere to it.
Odd that it was just those two. |

I had a memorable (and speedy) trip to Silverstone BDC with Jack in the car several years ago, on a glorious (early) August morning. Amazing car, and a never to be forgotten experience. Happy days, as our Delta would say! |
