Peter Auto has come up with a new event, the Richard Mille-supported 'Rallye des Legendes', catering for 50 of the world's most beautiful cars & visiting a different region of France each year. The inaugural event will take place on 11-14 September 2018.
At the same time Peter Auto has confirmed that Chantilly Arts et Elegance will not take place in 2018, partially due to the rather crowded calendar around its regular early September date. Instead, it will move to a July date in 2019, thereafter taking place in odd-numbered years, alternating with Le Mans Classic. |

And before anyone comments- the event is NOT a historic race meeting, so will not be on the calendar...... |

[QUOTE=Mike Bell;3780634]Question- who gets to decide which are ‘50 of the world’s most beautiful cars’.... /QUOTE] May be the same who declare Spa best track of the world, the Classic best meeting of the world, Chantilly and Pebble Beach most important in the world but even and so on…
In this period of so called communication any one who claims is right. Even popular vote is vastly influenced. Better make your opinion by yourself |

The Formula Junior Historic Racing Association, or FJHRA for short, has several ‘World Tour’ events and championships scheduled for 2018. The former commenced in 2016 to celebrate FJ’s Diamond Jubilee. Not all dates are known yet, but the continuing world tour has two regions listed- Baltic Sea Region and Europe Part 3.
Sector 8 Baltic Sea events (Curt Lincoln Trophy) will be- 2/3 June Lithuania 9/10 June Latvia 15-17 June Sweden Sector 9 Europe Part 3 (Peter Arundell Trophy) is- 4-6 May Donington HF 26/27 May Zolder 20-22 July Silverstone Classic (2 grids) The last marks the conclusion of the 3 year World Tour! No doubt will have a big turnout..... There is one date not yet confirmed for the FIA Lurani Trophy, and the U.K. Championship dates are still to be published. The latter will include a combined grid double header at Spa during the 6hr weekend, however. |

To get it all over in one hit, the pre season Motor Sport and Classic car themed show dates are as follows......
11-14 Jan. Autosport International, NEC. 07-11 Feb. Retromobile, Paris. 15-18 Feb. Historic Motorsport International, Excel Centre London. 23-25 Feb. Race Retro, Soneleigh. There- no clashes......... |

The FJHRA are certainly getting their monies worth out of touring the world! Suspect the old 'plastic' has been taking a hammering for some.

Essen Motor Show- not to be confused with Techno Classica Essen, then. Latter also pre-season, just! March 21st to 25th........
Gary, you’re right about the travelling FJs! Unparalleled in historic racing, methinks. |

Incidentally, this years Essen Motor Show is the 50th, which must make it one of the longest-running. ...and if we are stretching the point a bit, Flanders Collection Car in Gent is 18/19 February, same weekend as London. Sorry Mike, that's a clashing date! |

I’ve heard the December show described as a German version of the American SEMA, so quite different to Techno Classica. Interestingly they are accessible from here by public transport, as is Retromobile and of course HMI. In fact it would be almost as quick to Essen by train as it is to the NEC......
Anyway, we digress! |

Motor Show in December really covers all things motoring - including electric cars. One press release included a picture of a BMW i3 being 'refuelled' by an attractive young lady surrounded by a cloud of dry ice. Has that been your experience Mike? The show has evolved over the years & struggled following the 2009 crash as most of the major manufacturers pulled out, but has returned to strength now. It fills a complex comparable to the NEC (19 halls I think, at the last count. Motorsport has gained in significance in the last two or three years & now fills 2 or 3 halls plus a live action hall. A bit like Autosports, but probably closer to the Engineering section (does that still happen?) exhibitors range through teams. builders, preparers, suppliers etc as well as various race & championship organisers, predominantly from Germany & Holland. The rest of the show really does cover all things motoring from manufacturer stands, custom cars, a large classic section etc. Techno Classica in the spring is purely classics, but is the biggest & best show of its kind bar none. Again fills the entire complex, plus some outside areas. The organisers actually have a waiting list of exhibitors. Both shows are well worth a visit, inexpensive & - as Mike says- easy to get to. It's about a four-hour drive from the Channel ports. Parking is a lot cheaper than the NEC! |

Fancy doing some historic racing in Sweden next year? The Swedish Racing Historic Club (RHK) has just announced its calender for 2018. Starting at Kinnekulle Ring May 11-13, then Karlskoga June 15-17 (also the final round of the FJHRA Baltic Tour), Ring Knutstorp July 6-8, Mantorp Park August 24-26 and finally Falkenberg September 14-16.
Races are open to cars according to Appendix K and with a valid HTP (or a national VIF with the same contents but subject to approval, check first). Grids for Competition Touring Cars (up to 65, 66-71, 72-81 plus Group A -90). 66-71 and 72-81 also including GTs of the same vintage. Separate grids for GTs up to 65. Further grids for historic Formula Ford (all the way up to 1990), historic Formula Vee (single- and double-carb), single-seaters racing on slicks up to 1990 (together with Sports 2000). Pre-war cars, Formula Junior, F3/500 and F3/1000 get separate grids if enough entries, otherwise still welcome but will then be combined with other grids. Events are for three days with free practice on Friday, timed practice and one race on Saturday and a second race on Sunday. Link to the RHK homepage:http://www.rhkswe.org/ (but don´t get fooled by the UK flag, the English version of the page has not been updated since 2014 or so). |

Thanks John. I wish HSCC continued success with the championship in the face of competition from the French organisation!
There’s only one complete clash of F2 dates- the Zandvoort HGP is same weekend as Paul Ricard, but I don’t think there will be many competitors attempting both championships anyway..... |

We’ve had the HFF calendar which is the same thing plus Thruxton, but better twice than not at all....
