GT Open 2018

The GT Open is back in 2018, looks like business as usual pretty much this year after it introduced a pro class last year. Im still unsure how much of a good idea that is for a series like this, was always much nicer as pro-am.

Calendar:

Estoril 14-15.04.2018
Paul Ricard 05-06.05.2018
Spa 09-10.06.2018
Hungaroring 07-08.07.2018
Silverstone 01-02.09.2018
Monza 22-23.09.2018
Barcelona 20-21.10.2018

Already a good entry list building, plenty of Lamborghinis. Looking like they will retain their regular players while gaining a few more. Although it is still to be seen whether any McLaren's join this year, with Garage 59 moving back to Blancpain (they did a duel program in 2016, but Tappy/Benham are moving to LMP3 this year), and Balfe Motorsport is returning to run a two car programme in the British GT.

This series year to year is either awesome or a complete dud. 2017 was a good one. I still think this series should back up what they claims with the title "open" in their name and invite GTE cars back in.

No better way to drive off the GT3s then by putting a handful of GTEs in front of them and relegating them to also-rans.

Guess old days when private teams could join continental series with GT2 or elder GT1 are gone for good. Too expensive stuff.
gtopen has been great, one of the best, if not the best european sprint championship up to 2013.... after that it has been basically eaten by BSS and a bit by ELMS

I hope that entry list is incomplete. That's a very small grid.

DriveX School - Mercedes AMG GT3 - Hahn/Kodair. confirmed today.

And expecting 2-4 Ferrari's as always. Hopefully, the Jordan Bentley stays in & Sports & You will be there with 2x Mercedes AMG. Then the grid will go to 20/20+

Doubting the Lexus & McLaren will stay, no news about that..?

I wonder if GT Open is going to take a hit in terms of diversity of brands in 2018. Gone are Lexus and McLarens it appears. Not sure about if there are any Audi's or Porsches either. And fewer Mercedes perhaps. Looks like the dominant brands in numbers are Lamborghini, Ferrari, and BMW.
