Nah, he'll come good.
Next year will be the one to watch (and perhaps this years Sandown race) after using this season to visit all the tracks and absorb the series and the car characteristics. |

I would say James Courtney is the most similar, a background in open wheelers and Toyota GT racing similar to Stanaway's background in open wheelers and Aston Martin GT racing, so a championship win in his 5th season just like Mr Courtney would be a good result for Mr Stanaway.

See above about Mr Courtney who also didn't race in the Dunlop series --- neither did the other SBR protege Mr. Van Gisbergen nor Mr. Ambrose for that matter.
Meanwhile Mr. Winterbottom who did do the Dunlop series plus two seasons of Orrcon sponsored rear of grid slog, was passed over for the drive of the vacated Pirtek turned Jeld-Wen #4 Falcon. Go figure. |

New Zealands had 3 drivers that have gone to higher honours in open wheel racing in the past few years,Brendon Hartley,Mitch Evans & Richie Stanaway.
Without a doubt the best of them by far is Richie Stanaway, once he gets going he'll blow the doors off everyone. |

Hmm, these are the results of Mr Courtney at the same point of his rookie season:
Ret Ret 8 18 8 12 5 Ret 15 Ret And Mr Stanaway: Ret 20 24 Ret 25 18 25 {Not brillaint } Courtney's 5th and three top tens are certainly superior to Mr. Stanaway, although Mr Courtney's write off was certainly more spectacular. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....... |

He had a shot, but the cheque is allegedly still bouncing around the accounts departments at DJRTP.

1) What was the total budget of James Courtney's team in his debut year compared to the total budget of Tickford this season? 2) Of that total budget, what percentage of it (roughly) was spent on Courtney's car versus Stanaway's car at Tickford this season? |

2) How should I know. Are you suggesting the Mega racer is an underfunded steed made out of cobbled together bits leftover from the leading Tickford racers? And that even the whole Tickford operation has less resources than championship winning SBR in it's hey day? |

Considering the experience of Frosty and Mostert can't get a Tickford FGX consistently fast, I don't think Stanaway can be expected to do better than he so far has, in what seems an underfunded car, which may or may not be part of an underfunded team.
