Wasn't he doing that under the instruction of Mercedes - so surely if the conspiracy theorists are right, then Toto Wolff will have a seat lined up for him elsewhere already?

I would wager money on Ocon being in a Merc in 2020, at the expense of Bottas.

You are only as good as your last race (And no, that's not a reference to what happened in Brazil) But for Ocon, that will be a while ago. And imagine Bottas being able to keep up with Hamilton far better than he ever did and winning a few races in 2019. Or Russell making a good start to his F1 career and steadily getting the upper hand on his teammate - let's say the Leclerc effect. |

Still the chance Ocon could end up at Renault in 2020, of course.

I do hope someone somewhere finds a seat in F1 for 2020. He's too good to be left on the scrapheap

F1 has a problem when there aren't seats to keep qualified and deserving drivers on the grid. I do like that drivers are getting chances at later ages, though, like Hartley and now kubica. Seems like last few years guys were only chewed up and spit out by 22. (Like ocon, sadly).

That’s the problem when you only have 10 teams. Come on Liberty, you should be encouraging more teams to join

There are open spots right now and ZERO teams with actual interest and ability to fill them. It's not an easy process and teams from F2 can't just decide to jump up. Liberty has no control over the rule book and requirements for building X amount of the car, if they could have 2 more teams as the current contract allows they would. But there's no one out there ready to join

It's not though. However the 11th place team does not receive FOM revenue therefore the 11th team always goes bankrupt, therefore you end up with 10 teams.
Simply a matter of the current Concorde agreement. I would be in favour of 13 equal shares of FOM revenue to 13 teams, with a cheap trophy and 12 quid bottle of Chandon sparkling to the WCC winner! Historical payments (aka Bernie's bribes) can rack off! |

I remember when Liberty first came into F1, one of their priorities was to increase teams, especially after losing Manor. So far yet to see much of it, which is a shame

Bottas....no doubt he has skill and consistency all though seems like he took a step back wards this year (or maybe just LH took another step up). great team mate and all around nice guy so i cant really think of a good reason for Merc to demote him but i cant help but feel that it is worth the risk to do so.

Bottas needs to be right up there from first race in Melbourne in 2019 or else Ocon will be in his seat within 5 or so races for a fraction of his wages doing the same job.

I'm not even sure he's going to be there!
The last time I saw a driver that exhausted and 'out of it' he retired. |

Bottas had some bad luck earlier in the season, but other times he's looked ordinary. He needs to find more consistency

Maybe while the Mercedes is a great overall package, Hamilton is just so good right now that it is hard for most any teammate to challenge him? But overall... I have wondered about Bottas and his performance this year. Richard |

It's in the race Hamilton was clearly outperforming Bottas. A sign that Hamilton's racecraft, as opposed to outright pace, is where his talent really lies? |
