Viv, how about a picture of you in your prime? Perhaps one of you in your pinny working on the wife's Pie Stall.

Plus, I must warn you that whilst picking on me is an acceptable sport I would strongly advise that you do not get upon the wrong side of my wife. Referring to her high quality Home Baking business as a pie stall could land you in serious hot water! |

Back on a cycling theme, the book Tom Simpson:Bird on the Wire sounds (and looks) like a great read.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Tom-Simpson.../dp/147294920X Shame it's out of stock at Amazon. One of the reviewers (who gave it 5 stars) was Tom Simpson's nephew. |

VIVA, after "The Horse whisperer", we have a new Christmas tale: The rivet whispering in a horse's ear!

Mk2 Ford Escort in an auction? Nothing unusual in that, but there is a lot unusual about this car.....

Dare! Certainly our Bauble deserves that.
C'on Mike, you mean "size matters" here, can't believe it. I have some clients here, only looking for maker's plates… Ever heard about David Watkins, Neil Duncan and Barney the dog? Forget the dog… |

Correct, of course, good driver too. As a hobby, I use to write articles for some magazines, the monthly Gazoline making good sales in the classics area. During a show, a charming gentleman arrives on our stand and says "Hi, in case you'd like to drive an ex-works Escort, please give me a call"! There you go! Were all works Escorts LHD when campaigned on "our" continent?

OK, Ami Robert, I supply some help about your pictures:
on the first one we have Tom Simpson and Keith Buttler, place is Crystal palace London. That's it. Talking about chrystal, may be you can enlighten me, was Keith given a nickname by your journalists? Butter may be… Because he couldn't match real champions like Darrigade, Van Steenbergen, Van Looy, De Vlaeminck (rider not painter!) Maertens and stuff. Do you think, as they said, he would have seemed like a pussy in a bear's net? |

My particular 'heroes' were Rik Van Looy and Roger De Vlaeminck, and brother Eric top Cyclo Cross man. Rik was the ultimate Rouleur able to turn a massive gear. I can not recall Butler having a nickname here, probably those Damned Frogs being rude about another Rosbif! Regadez vous, Le bauble. |

Iain, one of the great joys of cycling is hunching down on a freezing cold and wet stretch of barren road and using your numb fingers to lever off a flat tyre and stick on a patch where the gaping hole in the inner tube is, and finding it is not big enough to cover it all. Running out of glue dropping the French chalk all over the ground, and discovering you have left your pump at home.
Oh Happy days. |

Of course your riders are trained for ovals, they only have a small island to go around in circles! But OK, as a sportsman myself, I should admit that the best you have are… the doctors! And if someone is considering a pump, dont buy it from here, it will only pump out French and fresh air! |

If its too mild, it means you're pedaling under-inflated…
Bauble will tell you that the inner tube is a Froggy invention! We have special units we like to sell abroad… |

Easy to agree upon the fact that cycling is the most demanding sport, while I can't even imagine what it takes to compete in cyclo-cross.
I guess, Mike, delta, Alan at least will agree upon the fact that to discover a race track and find the best trajectories, a bicycle is the tool of choice. And if you drive a car under 300hp, you are sensible to where you should place the wheels to save efforts. Best example for youngsters is Eau Rouge, best example for "not so young" could be Pouhon! |

I did a handful of sessions on a Velodrome a few years back. Much harder work than motor racing!
