LE CASTELLET MOTORS CUP

French organiser HVM and Masters HR combine for a season opener at the Circuit du Castellet or Paul Ricard if you prefer....

Will include all Masters grids, including HF1.

Will they utilise the Mistral straight chicane or......??????

Where’d you read that? The circuit diagram shows the layout as using the chicane.

Right Mike, the circuit lay out shown on Masters website is said "Solution 1C-V2 for 5,821 km", the chicane is present between the sectors L1 and L2.

Thanks Gerard, I’m not getting senile then!

Of course the wrong diagram could have been posted, so let’s see. I was curious as Peter Auto use the chicane and was surprised that HVM / Masters weren’t as well....

Not really… actually! In the good old days, when we pure amateurs were supporting the F1's, we could drive the Mistral straight full boost using the 5 kilometers lay out while the "real things" had to go for 3.4 kilometers something. As a consequence, a very good Bimmer or Capri of the Production championship was faster than a F1 when arriving in Signes curve! Sweet revenge.

I always say it, sorry to insist, but if anyone here or around is interested in racing there, do book a box while some are still available.

We'll all born with a wide open mouth, eyes closed. After this day many try to have their eyes wide open and exchange the noise coming out their mouth for wise words. Many means not all.
I can't help you anymore in this matter cose totally unable to show the right example! But I have a good excuse, I'm French. Actually…

When we first raced (with GTSCC) at Le Castellet we were asked if we wanted the layout with chicane or without. The vote was for ‘with’, as a lot were concerned for their engine survival! Then last year the suggestion was that CER would not use the chicane, so everyone got excited- only for the organiser to change the layout.....

BTW I see that there’s a new pit lane entrance coming this summer for the GP, so that will be in place by time we get there later on in the season! Hope the drivers take note....

No worry Mike, didn't you say that you're only here to wash the dishes and that your drivers are undisciplined during the briefings!! You will be the "dummies" for this new entry, no excuse accepted!

When we had the Deux Tours d'Horloge there it was without the chicane. Signes curve becomes "interesting" then together with the Mistral wind blowing hard sideways at the level of the restaurant…

No entry list yet. It will be on Masters website a few days before the event.

They always publish close to the date.

Changement d'heure en France

Did not find any entry list yet. All info in English on the french website.

Despite me telling them about it, my neighbours have done nothing about registering theirs, and France is their first trip next week Mike if you're talking about Mirage they could be surprised by the rental price for a box there… At least transponders are free.

Be warned official time will change during the weekend. Sunday at 2 AM you have to turn your clock forward to 3 AM. First dummy grid at 8:50 Sunday (7:50 if you dont touch your watch).

Yes, clocks go forward during the meeting! When we raced at Ricard in 2013 the box rental was more than most race entry fees- so we declined the offer..... Think when PA race there, if you’re in a box, it’s not charged extra?

Good grid for HF1.

GT40 isn’t normally eligible for GD, but is for NKHTGT, hence you’ll notice in a GTP class. GD and the Touring car grids are considerably boosted by the inclusion of the Dutch series cars, luckily.

Why the comment regarding that driver in a T70?

He's been very quick in a B8 and in modern GT3 (got pole at one of the VLN races. Will be good to see him race something quicker in historics.

Also be interesting to see how the Group C car compares with the more modern prototypes.

Agree good grid for the F1 especially when a few regulars are absent including CTL. I was going to go but it looked a pain to get to for just a short weekend.

Different times and conditions Mike, also different Directors.

Patrick Quiniou was the first to get Paul Ricard re-opened for historic cars and the conditions were at the time very special, hence the price of garages, additional badges or the mandatory catering and so on. Public was not even allowed back then and they could only get in if buying specific tickets and catering altogether.

Patrick Peter got there a few years later, got over the other Patrick and in the same fashion he has done for his other meetings, negotiated everything but also the Director had changed, the circuit was now willing to bring-in the public and things got off a different way for him.

I quite remember this weekend too! All started with closed gates even for the organisation… Then we had software issues, one list showing first name first the other last name first and nothing compatible of course. We had to ask many competitors if they had paid their entry fee… Too happy to deal with fair people. I remember the refueling too… rock'n roll style!
Everything has change as you say nothing is comparable. Being on the official list you'll see how it works today. Enjoy your weekend all.
