Don't be silly. This is only the wrangling about the withdrawal and transition. The real work about the trade deal hasn't started yet....

Latest on French customs disruption...

France - Customs Delays (Upd. 5) - Transport Hubs

Event: Customs officers' protest
Time Frame: Through at least April 3
Locations: Nationwide
Impact: Shipping, airport, and rail disruptions; traffic delays near ports; possible overbooking on alternative transport

Summary
Unionized French customs officials' work-to-rule protest is likely to continue to cause passenger and freight transport disruptions between France and the UK through at least April 3. The purpose of the labor action is to demand increased pay, more staff, and better working conditions ahead of the anticipated increase in customs officials' workloads after Brexit.

The strike began March 4, resulting in customs clearance slowdowns at border crossings between France and the UK. The protest actions have prompted significant disruptions at transport and customs hubs. Unions have so far rejected a government pay increase offer, claiming the amount was insufficient.

Eurostar
Eurostar customs officials have reportedly extended the work-to-rule action until at least April 3, leading to ongoing disruptions. Action at Paris Gare du Nord and Lille Europe stations to destinations in the UK have led to delays of between two and five hours, as well as some cancellations of Eurostar services, since March 8. Between two and four trains between Paris and London are currently being canceled daily. Eurostar officials are advising passengers to postpone all non-essential travel until April 4.

Ports
Significant delays and shipping disruptions are occurring at the Calais Port terminal and the Eurotunnel terminal. Ferries operating from Calais and Dunkirk to Dover, UK, have faced departure delays of at least 80 minutes since the evening of March 7. Officials at the Port of Roscoff in Brittany have also reported delays of up to 40 minutes due to increased inspections of vehicles on ferries bound for Plymouth, UK. The strikes have prompted freight truck back-ups several kilometers long on the A16, A25, and A26 highways. Because Calais is the country's busiest port and a major hub for France-UK trade, shipping at the port of Dover, UK, is also likely to be impacted by knock-on delays.

Roadblock Protest
The National Federation of Road Transport (FNTR) enacted a roadblock demonstration March 19 on the A16 highway at the Belgian border, between junctions 63-65, to protest the disruptions caused by the work-to-rule action at ports and on the Eurotunnel. However, representatives claim that the action was also to demonstrate more effective traffic management techniques. The demonstration did not significantly increase disruption on the A16 highway. The FNTR states similar action will be implemented if road traffic congestion increases again in the coming days.

Airports
French customs officials extended the work-to-rule action to include some airports with regular connections to the UK as of March 8; personnel implemented additional passenger screenings at security checkpoints, which could lead to flight delays and disruptions. Affected airports include Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Paris Orly (ORY), Chambery (CMF), Grenoble's Alpes-Isere (GNB), and Nice (NCE), though only ORY and CMF experienced significant disruptions March 8-10. The action was initially slated for March 8-10, but unions representing airport customs officials have filed a strike notice for similar action until April 1; the protests could expand to more French airports.

Advice
Confirm cross-Channel services with the relevant transport operator before travel. Allow additional time if transiting via the ports of Calais and Dunkirk. Book alternative transport in advance, where possible. Check that routes are clear before heading to the ports of Calais and Dunkirk, and on the A16 for travel to and from Belgium. Allow additional time for clearing customs for international trains at Paris Gare du Nord and Lille Europe stations, as well as all Eurostar rail services transiting France through at least April 3; consider alternative means of travel. Confirm all flights through April 1. Allow additional time to clear customs at CDG, ORY, CMF, GNB, and NCE.

My wife is at London for the moment. Being a foreigner she does not report more hassle than on usual which is enough! Now if she's not back at home at least she found good excuses not be in time…*Women, women!

For the first time of my votant life I'll go the most stupid way lets say a kind of TSF protest, Tout Sauf Macron.

OK you convinced me, so what about a Tenths list? Midget Man, MG Dave, Rich Lancs, E.B who is more fluent in French than I am, Terence and Paddy, Me and my Yorkies, Bob of course who else what to join us ? Puisque c'est déjÃ* le bazar ici, autant y aller gaiment et avec le sourire ! Following Mike B suggestion we could add a kroketts budget to the expenses allowance! Ha dont forget a half potato budget too! This new party could be named FART, ask E.B for any further info!!!

No it'll be fine, honestly, it'll be fine. There'll be no delays and the French are ready to go with a smile.

We went Dover-Calais with motorhome & trailer last Tuesday, no delay at all for us but a fairly long queue of trucks on the hill down into Dover, and in the port checkin area. Contraflow on the M20 with one side reserved for truck parking but not backed up that far (yet).
We return to UK Friday, will report back how we get on.

A report on the radio tonight said the boss of Calais port is all ready for brexit as they have been planning for over a year and all the infrastructure is in place. He said that customs clearance would be by "E" documents and should all be completed by the drivers on phones or tablets etc. So at least someone at least knows what they are talking about, shame we don't have a few more of him here

Dont fully agree I think you've already too many French in your country. And please if by chance you meet a good one let him work here we've too few… Just hope the phone operators allowing the use of mobiles or tablets won't be on strike! You never know with French!

He may be ready, but are the ‘working to rule’ customs officials? And where is this electronic clearance method to be found? Surely we’d know about it by now if if was in place.....

If there are delays for tourists, David, they will be when returning, so will be interesting to hear what happens. Bon voyage! I’m just happy to be going straight to Spain....

Dave (DJ Invitcta) told me that it took him an hour or so to get through the froggie customs on the tunnel and missed his train a couple of days ago.
Also because of the M20 being made into 2 lanes (and one being the hard shoulder) I got caught in a jam this afternoon after a car broke down making what was a motorway with a hard shoulder a single lane road ! 10 miles in first gear was great !!!!!

For those that haven't been on the M20 for a while this is what it is like now. I had already driven for miles in a two lane tailback in first gear and this is what caused it and obviously is going to be a problem from now on, you have been warned !!!

I'm surprised they didn't close the road in both directions and land an Air Ambulance just in case it was needed.

It's called 'Operation Brock' and is already causing chaos. Could involve closing M26 as well!

Talking about chaos unfortunately Ma dame is back and safe. She reports Gare du Nord queuing for Eurostar is between fifty minutes and slightly more than four hours. Randomly depending on various unions.

Today we should be leaving the EU, but we will not. Watching the news last night it was full of reporters, commentators, MP's, all blathering about the complexities, compromises, options, difficulties of finding a way out of the morass.
There appears, it seems, no answer to the problem!

Like many, probably most, of the general public like me were screaming; "JUST LEAVE".

This solution is of course 'off the table'.

I now firmly believe that parliament does not want any solution except to revoke Article 50, and this is their method of doing so.

Probably a long delay so that the referendum result is five or six years old before a final decision has to be made, and easily forgotten when it is.

The only hope that is left to the Leavers will be when we have to take part in the EU elections a huge swathe of UKIP/Brexit MEP's are elected and can make life difficult for the EU. Also when a General election is called the same thing happens.

Parliament is a complete disgrace, the majority of MP's are what they have always been, self-seeking, hypocrites.

May they rot in hell.

I don't disagree about MP's being a spineless disgrace, but 'like many probably most' is around 10% . . . . according to recent surveys/polls. even the thickest brexiters are slowly beginning to realize its the politicians and establishment in their own country that have been screwing them for decades and not the EU, which has done more to help and protect than anything or anyone else.

Just because someone disagrees with you doesn't make you more clever. It simply makes you different to them. As to your assertion, yes quite right, our politicians got us into this in 1972.

Sensible people took the opportunity to remove us from the yolk, but too many self interested politicians decided no. There is still a chance though.
