Only see one Toyota with the WEC designation next to it. Does this mean that the 2019/2020 WEC season will only have one Toyota in it???
Must have been a typo, both are shown WEC now.

Toyota said in their 2019 motorsport pr they are entering two cars for the whole next season.

Thanks. Especially liked the ending scene going down the front straight at sunset as the sound faded away. Nice.

hurray! Sometimes we get so wrapped up in getting what we want, that we forget to ask ourselves why we wanted it in the first place. They were informing us who were the next champs! Congratulations to them.

You do know Rebellion won Silverstone right? Sure Toyota was dq'ed but a win is a win! I hope there's more of a challenge to them than currently but we'll have to see.

The hybrid power is still a big issue for the private teams to overcome, as well as the fact that they've had to run on Toyota spec tires pending Michelin developing privateer spec tires.

Possibly, they can match Toyota for speed on a clear track, but the added power and torque of Toyota's hybrid system is probably difficult to overcome. Especially if EOT/BOP is still off. However, on that end at Shanghai, I do feel that they're headed in the right direction there.

If the private teams get their new tires and EOT/BOP is good, I still think that Toyota will dominate the final results, as you'd expect a factory team to. But if the privateers can make a race of it, at least for a while, that's probably the best we can ask for. And if we get that, this is how I'll feel about it (gratuitous Victoria Justice gif incoming):

If the "built-in one lap stint disadvantage or otherwise you're penalised" nonsense has indeed been removed for the nonhybrids at LM, then they might have a chance, but otherwise not. Unless Toyota returns to old ways of collapsing on their own

I'm not sure if that advantage is going away. Not from the last time they were interviewed about it sounded. Something about the fact they are running hybrids should be an efficiency advantage displayed by an extra lap. The only thing that could negate that is a faster pit stop by the privateers or a pace advantage. Neither looks likely imo.

According to this, the mandated advantage is gone.

Yes that's the one I was referring to however they might silently re-instate it for LM - as EoT is reversed on race-by-race basis anyway. The "agreement with the LMP1-H competitor" may be in place for the shorter races but do they still agree with it come June... if they just say "no let's go back to what we had"... well... ACO will just follow it

Seems Toyota is prepared for the new regulations either which way they go. Prototype or Hypercar https://sportscar365.com/lemans/wec/...r-involvement/. Endurance-info has a story up too where they say they've already started on the next regulations car.

I think a red outline along the white nose would be a good idea on this new look. I wonder when they'll test the 2019/2020 car again.

Would it be possible to run their 2017 third car at the LM test day for next season prep? You know like Audi did with their fourth R18 in 2013 test day, for 2014 tyre testing

Looks like Alonso is not coming back next season and Brendon Hartley is in frame to replace him in the #8 car.

I'm in two minds on that. I love seeing the car as it's stupendous to watch, but now that Audi and Porsche have taken their towels away from the WEC sunbed, it would be good to see some straight privateer competition....

No. As someone who endured the Audi steamroller during the mid 2000s this is not remotely as bad.

I disagree with you on this one. During the R8 & R10 other cars won (MG, Panoz, etc) and were at least in the mix at every race. Then Porsche came in with the RS Spyder and pushed them around for a couple of years during the R10/R15 period. Then we had Peugeot challenge them for a couple of years in the early life of the R18. And for many of those years the Audis were SLOWED to enable the field to race with them.

With Toyota there is no one to challenge them and no one is allowed to challenge them. Everyone is BOP'd out of getting anywhere near them. I have nothing against Toyota as they stayed when everyone else left (kinda like Audi in 2000) but at this point I wish they would take their ball and go home. I'd rather watch the privateers duke it out.

Maybe one country got to see Audi defeated, but in Europe and Le Mans in particular, it was complete domination until the late 2000s. I attended my first Le Mans aged 5 in ‘99 and every year after that, the winner was a dead cert until 2007.

It’s not dissimilar now, other than the manufacturers spending the lower sums are now in GT rather than badge-engineering a prototype or fannying about in 675.
