And didn’t Tiff say something like, ‘if I had known he would blame me, I wouldn’t have braked’? I remember Patrese once said having done a season in the STW that to succeed in tip tops you have to be a specialist in that category It’s usually easier for single seater drivers in the DTM as that’s more a silhouette series, than a saloon series |

Nic Hamilton has been closer to the midfield than Blundell, although Blundell got 2 points thanks to the right tyre choice at Brands

I had my fist visit to Thruxton yesterday for a very long time, courtesy of a birthday present from my son and his girlfriend. I actually got sunburn from the couple of hours of quite strong sunshine (and my forgetfulness, hat-wise). I only saw the first two races - we decided to leave before the crush (having taken the best part of 45 minutes to get into the circuit that morning). I confess I found the two races really quite dull and I was surprised to find the competitors far more well behaved than when I used to watch the BTCC regularly years ago. But it was worth going for a sensational Mini Miglia race........

However I do think it's probably not a great car, and Chilton is getting more than he should out of it. |

It has to sting for Blundell to hear comments like that. But for them to come from Chilton... wow.

But that's the problem, Ollie always seems to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, he's one of those drivers that seems to spend all season pootling round in the mid to back of the field with half the bodywork hanging off. The Focus "RS" is a more than capable car in the right hands, as demonstrated by various drivers over the years, but must be getting towards the end of its development cycle. Had Mat stayed on with the team last year I suspect he would have been in with a shout of the title. |

The Focus has always seemed to run mediocre in the first half of a season. The second half usually bringing much better results. Chilton was joint 4th going into Thruxton and if he hadn't lost his Brands win he would have held 4th on his own. They just struggled to get the tyres working for them at Thruxton. But if the car is so bad, explain how he managed to finish each race several places further up the grid in what others have described as processional races with very little overtaking.

A silly thing that struck me was after the Mini races, the Marshals all appeared to come out onto the track & enthusiastically wave to, wave flags at & cheer the drivers, just like they did in the 80's when I was racing the things. The reaction to the BTCC drivers seemed far less involved!

If there was a track built for Mini racing, it’s Thruxton. Packs of cars slipstreaming. I think I saw 7 cars abreast going into the chicane in one of the races

quite odd when in that case they should have done a lot better at Brands and Donington. The CC has a "slippery" look to it so i expected it to be decent on straights, interesting considering in its first year TOC had multiple podiums in the VW, and Plato got a win at Thruxton in the car, I know everyone has moved on but they have clearly stagnated |

I seem to remember some cars struggling to pass the VWs at Donington due to it’s straightline speed

Seen and heard a few people mention that team hard tried to shorten the wheelbase on the CC. Did that actually happen? and why?

It seems unlikely because the NGTC build requirements state: 'Once you have chosen your base car you will need to locate the position for the front and rear ‘subframes’. This is determined by the layout of your chosen base vehicle, as the wheelbase of the race car must remain within the +/-10mm tolerance of the homologated road car figure.' Which means that: A) the original CC build must have been close to +10mm to make any change effective (possible). B) team hard were willing to fund a new design and fabrication for the central ROP cage (improbable). |
