Hi folks. First post here. There seems to be some lively discussion surrounding the 75B cars and I have enjoyed the reading. My uncle raced in the FA series from 1975 through 1980 or 1981 and he is mentioned here a few times - Cliff Hansen. I was especially interested in this thread as I am on the hunt for Cliff's old race cars 75B, 76B, 77B, 78B, and 79B. Two of your senior members have graciously offered to help me do just that. Thank you gents!

Not so long ago I saw a photo in an ad in a magazine for a Formula Atlantic. Possibly a March 76B? in blue and white colors with Elf and First National City sponsorship, somewhat like the 1978 F1 Tyrrell 008. Looked kinda nice. Anyone know who raced this car back in the day?

•76B (number unknown). New to Graeme Lawrence, mainly SE Asia 1976-79. Sold to Romeo David who raced SE Asia 1980
•763/77B (763/14). Uprated F3 car. Andrew Miedecke Macau 1977, NZ and SE Asia 1978
•763/77B (763/38). Uprated F3 car. Ian Grob under Alan Docking Racing banner in NZ 1978. This (and a spare tub) later to Garry Clare, Australia
•77B/30. Probably not raced 1977: entered by works for Danny Sullivan in 1978 NZ series. Acquired by Colin Giltrap and raced for him by Larry Perkins 1979, Desiré Wilson 1980, John Smith 1981. Then sold to Ray Hanger in Australia

Hi,
I owned the ex-Riley/Donovan 77B for a short time. I swapped it for a Reynard Formula Holden with a chap who lived in NZ. The March was fitted with a YBM Cosworth. I drove it at King Edward Park at Newcastle at one meeting and, from memory, broke the under 2 litre class record (Tom Donovan later took this with his kart-based device much to his delight). It was Tom who confirmed that this car was formerly his. I fitted a "cooking" Pinto motor and ran the March in my racing drivers school at Wakefield Park on one occasion. The car was then sold to Brian Miller's brother.
The YBM went into the March 77B numbered C2 which was an ex-James King tub Stuyvesant series spare which had been refurbished by Garry Clare for Ian Grob. It was then owned by Paul Hamilton and Max Preen and another chap in Australia. Darren Baker and I ran it in the NSW and Australian Hillclimb Championships circa 2000-2002. We installed a Lysholm screw supercharger and Motec ECU. It made a lot of noise but was rather too heavy.
The chassis had been damaged by Max Preen at Bathurst Hillcllimb when the March had been fitted with a Pinto 2 litre SOHC.
After I sold the car to a fellow in Queensland the car was crashed and I understand that it has been re-tubbed, this time at the correct length and fitted with a BDA.

Lawrence, who's selling? 722-38 was recently owned by Jack Woodruff in Colorado.
75B-3 is "interesting".
Do you know who the person was who wrote it off at Olympia, and doing what? (As I don't think there were any races there in '86)

Lawrence, it's important to secure any SCCA log books on the 722 and the 75B. I think I know about the 722 but its history before 1981, unless Chris knows different, is still unknown. The vendor should have the SCCA log book for it somewhere and that will tell you much more. Bug him for that - it's really important.

-I'll have to get after him pretty soon, we're thinking of getting these chassis in January and would want all this stuff...
Let you know what I can and what he has as far as log books and race records.
-I raced at "Oly" in 89' (and maybe the year before as well), they had races there several years prior to that so it's possible he was there. The race was "Dueling Race Cars at Oly 198?" presented by Team Continental of Portland, Oregon.
-I've seen both data plates and the numbers are correct, or at least as good as my memory
The -38 is the number on the 722, corrected number on other tub is 74B-3...
-Driver was Bill Hill, racing in ASR I suppose as ICSCC has no CanAm classification.
His story was he hit a dirt embankment at over 100 straight on, fractured both his neck and back, kinked the tub in the mid-section, smashed everything forward of the front bulkhead flat against it. Not pretty...

Bill's crash in the "Marzda" or "Banana Crate" was at the SCCA Regional (NW Region) at Olympia Airport in September 1986. The history of 722-38 before Bill bought it from Chuck Willis in 1981 is a bit of a mystery and the SCCA log book could clear that up. Bill was led to believe that it had been raced by Ron Dykes and by Kevin Cogan but that must have been in as-yet undiscovered SCCA Nationals and Regionals as neither appeared in a 722 in Pro racing. One possibility is that it was the Wilbur Bunce team's "75B" as that was driven by Dykes and the car was clearly older than its 75B bodywork.
