Two body shapes are accepted by the FiA, the standard body shape as on the white car for sale and BFR 400B, and the DR Paul body shape as raced at the international meeting at Brands Hatch on 30.8.1965. The Griff is competitive against Cobras and E types, Nigel Reuben's cars have won the Silverstone Classic, the Goodwood members meeting, the Oldtimer GP, Brands Hatch and Donington Masters races, and finished 4th at the Spa 6hrs, beaten only by GT 40's. It has also won the Dix Mille Tours 60's Endurance race back in 2011. The Griff is no more of a 'handful' than any other car in the hands of a competitive driver. If Dr Bob wants a competitive Griff then go to Nigel Reuben. |

Re the handling, I guess they just have different characteristics to some other cars. |

The 400 is not on the list of FIA homologated cars.
Can you get an FIA HTP for the 400. I presume so because the link to the 400 posted by Will says it has papers valid to 2025. I will need to look at the period FIA International approved events. Assuming both the 200 and the 400 are eligible for pre 66 GT events which one would be best. |

The US 200 - looks like a MK 3 Grantura - Not eligible The US 400 - looks like the 1800S or MK 4 Grantura - eligible - so long as it is called a 200. (has Manx tail) The GB 200 - looks like the 1800S or MK 4 Grantura - eligible. (has Manx tail) If you look at the list of FiA eligible cars on the FiA website the Griff is called 'Griffith 200' or simply 'Griffith'. The white car in the advert is not a 400, it is a GB 200. Only the 200 Manx tail car is homologated. It's TVR's fault, when they sold the car in the UK and Europe it looked like the US 400 but they called it a 200. Everybody looks at a Manx tailed car and thinks it is a 400 but it could be a GB 200. You do not need a genuine chassis number for FiA papers, you can build a clone so long as it conforms to one of the two body shapes mentioned previously. As I have said before Nigel Reuben is the expert in Griffiths and he obtains papers for most of the cars he builds. http://www.nigelreubenracing.com |

You have the names and info too.
My list, may be not up to date, of homologated TVR models gives: Grantura MK III 1800 date 12/4/64, #60; Grantura Type MGB date 19/4/61, #32; Griffith 200 date 1/8/65, #206; MK III date 1/8/62: MK VI 1800 S date 1/7/67, #237. The homologation form pictures of the 200 have been discussed here, a short while ago. |

Sorry, forgot the interesting form for you, free consultation, personal use only: https://historicdb.fia.com/sites/def...6_group_gt.pdf
If you find it gives few things, its normal. Ask the named specialist and make up your mind. A great car to drive… |

Asides Johns answer, others could be
Which ever's newest or the latest development. or . . . depends on the weather. Asides the obvious choices, there are still a few oddities out there which were never properly developed in period, I guess the GT160 Elva is a good example, and the Tornado, only really hindered by its lack of period development. Most people are sheep not shepherds, so go for the easy option and follow the pack |

Thanks to all for the help
I have spoken to Nigel Reuben All very interesting. In effect he builds new cars, although he can race restore an original car. Both not a cheap exercise but a lot lot cheaper than an E type or Cobra. Takes about 6 months to build which would be good timing I think I will have to go and have a look at his operation as well as keep an eye for sales of cars with an HTP |

Just seen a Daytona Cobra pop up for sale. Price of 265,000. OMG.
BTW also for sale for '99 is a Renault STCC which is 99,000. Why so much difference in price? Bonkers. Put up on this thread as first car to do with Pre 66 GT car which Bob looking for. Haven't a clue what a Griffith would go for? I imagine not quite as much. |
